I have a 1991 Talon Tsi that I've been working on over the last two months. It ran when I bought it. It just needed a water pump. The car is completely stock. I already completed a full timing belt and water pump service. The car is 140 miles away and I work on it whenever I have the time to travel to it's location.
Anyway, I noticed a couple weeks ago that the fuel pump was dead. I even took it out to test it and it didn't do anything. So, I ordered a new Walbro 190 to replace it with. Today, I drove down and installed the pump but, the car would not run. It does crank though.
Here's what I noticed:
1. There's 12V to the pump.
2. Pump turns on when I jump the connector in the engine bay.
3. Fuel is at the rail because the pump is sending it there every time I stop cranking the car. I pulled off the line at the rail and fuel squirted out.
4. The car will actually start for a second if I use starting fluid.
5. I looked at the ecu and the boost gauge goes to 0 and I have CEL's. It was apparently rebuilt at some point. It didn't smell but I saw a little residue/corrosion near one of the caps. I can't tell if that was left over from before the rebuild or not. I also saw a tiny rectangle piece that was loose on the board.
6. Fuel injectors are getting 12V and will only shoot fuel when I ground them.
I appreciate any help. Thanks.
Solved: Bad ecu. It now runs.
