Glad, Oregon
I just wanted to verify that if I replace the valves that I'll need a 3-angle valve job.

I'm having the head resurfaced and guides replaced, but the valves look like total crap (200k carbon build up that doesn't let them seal and slightly worn stems). The valve job is an extra $500-$700 around here and I'm trying to limit the costs.

At this point I'm tempted to send it all the way to JAM for the full treatment. Suggestions?

That better be hot tanked and everything for that price. To me me that is still to high.OMG Where I live you can get complete valve job, guides, everything for $375.00

The prices around here are outrageous for all work. That price is ONLY for the valve job, not even the resurface, hot tank, cam align honing, or anything else. They knock down the price to haev everything done, but it's still ridiculously high.

That's why I'm tempted to send it back east where I can get it done by a top rated shop for about the same price.

wow you guys are getting hosed with prices. i just had a 3 angle valve job done, hot tanked, and everything reassembled for $175.if you guys are interested, you could send me the head and i can send it back when its done.

Alright, what I might do is just buy another one from DSMGraveyard, have it sent directly to you, then have it sent over here afterward. That whole deal would still cost less than what it would be for the basics here... I'll have to think about that.

For that price, send it to FFWD, its 500 for their basic treatment. I would do that in my opinion. Can't beat the work they do for the price.

For those prices Someone must be making up for there lack off work...Maybe even $hity work... Spent one time $400 to get a head rebuilt...1200 miles later I was Throwing the head across the Garage Because of someones Poor Work... And Rebuilding My Fresh Short block
Bought All NEW Parts myself Went somewere else pay'd $200 for valve job... Put it back together and it's lasted longer then my last set of pistons ROFL
I would Just make sure that Who ever you take it to Knows There $hit and Is know for there good work Its not about how much someone Charges it the Quailty
In my book Our head are our weak link ...I would'nt take a Chance Without Some Positive feadback from someone you know....

The machine shops I called were recommended from other autocross guys in my group (Siskiyou Sports Car Club). Unfortunately none of the old dogs have a dsm (though one used to race a '93 TSI when it was new) so most of their shops are more involved with Datsun/Nissan 510's, Rx6/7's, Corvettes and some euro racers. There are NO DSM or Mitsu shops in the area. Hell, there is only one Mitsu dealership out of the forty or fifty in over a 100 mile radius.

you dont need a dsm or mitsubishi specialist to work on the head. honestly. in most cases when a shop can do a rebuild on one head, they should know how to do it on another type of head.. just got to do it within the specs for that application.

yea man thats fine. if you want to, just let me know and ill give you my address.

My primary difficulty with not having those that specialize in DSM's is that they assume a foreign car is a cheap piece of crap around here and try to charge what they would a ricer. This is backwoods Oregon, where many of the shops will ONLY work on American made. (They back peddle and jumble their words when I mention that it was built in America by Chrysler.)

I'll stick to looking into getting it built somewhere else, but it'll take some time to get it all arranged. Thank you all for your input.
