I got a new fuel sending unit and am finishing up the install on the 2g awd. Is there a trick to reinstalling the plastic ring for the fuel sending unit? I have been trying to get it capped and screwed on and it I can still lift the sending unit up a bit even when I feel I have gotten it tight. I am pressing down very hard (I am a big guy) while twisting with no luck. As if it won't catch on the fuel tank.

Perhaps I am doing it wrong with the rubber seal for the fuel sending unit? I have the rubber seal ringed around the opening to the fuel tank, setting the sending unit down with the plastic ring and pushing and turning hard. I had it as if it felt sealed one time so I started to tighten with the screwdriver and hammer technique and it popped back up.

The sending unit cap I got is yellowed. Is it possible it could be stripped perhaps? It looked ok when I checked but I have never really seen one up close before.

Thanks.

Make sure the rubber gasket and sending unit are settled in completely onto the tank. I found it helpful to mark where the threads on the plastic cap meet up with the ones of the fuel tank, then try rotating it counter-clockwise until it settles onto the bottom threads.

I"ll do that. Thanks!

Turns out the sending unit wasn't turned correctly with the -an fittings. Put some oil on the rubber seal and got it in. Thanks again.
