You'll be lucky to finish this in time because there is quite a bit to automotive design which I have researched, know the schools of, main design firms, etc. This is a field that I am looking at going into is why. Not trying to harp but don't procrastinate so much.

Center for Creative Design, amazing school in automotive design.

A designer needs to be well educated in physics and chem due to working with extensive aerodynamics, composite materials, and how aerodynamic properties act in certain different situations.

Pininfarina, Bertone, Zagato, and Ghia are a few of the very notable design firms worldwide.

This is just tip of the iceberg for what to look at, I can elaborate but check those out first and if you already have some of that, then specify because it is a very wide field.
