Replacing Wiper Blades on a 1G

Okay, maybe I'm stupid but I've never seen wiper blades with such a bad design before. I'm trying to change my wiper blades on my 91 talon. They are the kind with the two screws that you take out and then the whole bracket piece comes off with the blade. I just bought replacements from wal-mart and can't figure out how to attach the new ones. Do I have to use the bracket from the old ones and if so how does it come off the blade? Any help would be great!

Is there a big J-hook on the end of that bracket? It's supposed to stay on the arm. Probably time to have the man at NAPA come out and hold your hand through it.

There is no J hook, it's just a straight rod. I will try to post of pics later tonight.

I have a 91 gsx that when I changed my blades I removed the 2 screws and drilled out the pin/rod holding the blade on then put the new ones on and put a screw and nut on till I can find a whole new arm assemble that will fit.

I had a similar problem that was easily solved with a black zip-tie. you should look into that option. the zip-tie has been fine, ive had more trouble with the blade that WASNT zip-tied, haha.

Ya I looked retarded when I was at Shucks and couldn't replace my wiper blades in the parking lot while it was raining and my old blades were torn to hell, so i just drove home a failure. When i got home i noticed the pin, so i yanked it out with some pliers. If you do that, then you should be able to put you new blade in its place, and push the pin back through. It worked for me, just getting them off might be a little hard

yea when i bought new wipers at advance, the guy asked if i wanted him to do it. i had already looked at them and was like wtf??? it took like 30 secs for him to figure it out. he said he had to go get some tools so i just pooped my hatch and he grabbed what he needed. think he used a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, and....a knife i think??? he removed the pins and the screws.

This problem could have been avoided by looking up your exact vehicle in the book(s) at the store or online. There are 22 different wiper arm styles and not all blades have mounts for all wiper arms. Use the book at the store or google "lookup wiper size" and make sure you get the right mount as well as the right length. Good luck!!

ok iv never had this problem before. usally mine just slide off then i slide my new one on. waaaaalaaaa its done . i can make a video for you guys but it might be a little complicated cause it will be all of 7 seconds long .

You need to get the one's that have the screw on type not the j hook style. Should come with 2 screws.

Exactly. I just replaced all of mine when I took the wiper arms off to paint them. The new blades came with 2 screws; very easy r&r. Hardest part was removing a rusted screw on the old blade.

But, ya since you guys posted 2 screws for the 1G wipers is correct and is a pain to take rust screws out.

Thank you for the warm welcome... The thread was not locked and if the moderator didn't want the discussion to continue, they should have locked it. Back to topic... Many people buy wipers by length-only and end up wasting time, I thought I'd point out that wiper mounts are not universal and using the application guides will avoid frustration.

PS: This particular mount offically is called "2 Screw Bayonet Mount"...which again, some replacement wiper blades will fit and some will not.
