Replacing the AC compressor belt ADVICE???

My Ac belt snapped last week could anyone offer any advise on how to change it easily? Is it better to get it from the top or should I try underneath the car? I have the eclipse repair book but it is so vague (remove the bolt, change the belt. thanks).

If anyone has ever changed the AC compressor belt for a 2G 97 gst could you offer any advise on how to change the belt the easiest way possible?

all the belts has to come off, since the a/c belt is on the inside. u'll have to do it from both top and bottom.
dont forget to disconnect the battery, u might touch the alternator and blow a fuse at best

Loosen the alternator pivot bolt (located near the block on the underside of the alternator)
loosen the lock bolt for the alt then ajust the tension bolt to loosen the belt
loosen the pivot bolt for the ps pump (located in pretty much the same spot)
loosen the adjusting bolt for the ps pump (located on the top of the ps pump)
push the ps pump towards firewall
now loosen the adjusting bolt on the idler pulley (located toward the rear of the of the engine compartment look for vaccum hoses going to the fpr and intake manifold and then look straight down you should see the adjuster bolt ) your also going to have to loosen the pivot bolt for that also
now remove the belts ( I found the best way is to remove the splash shield from that side and just go a little from bottom then a little from top just work it out of there. Also turning the belt side ways so the width of the belt id perpendicular to the wheel-well)
then install belts and tighten everything up belts should have 1/2 inch play with moderate thumb pressure. hope that helps

The power steering belt shouldn't have to be touched. The belt will have to be turned sideways to fit between the pulleys and sheetmetal.

my mistake defiant is correct as usual you don't need to take the ps pump belt off i was just going through my experience when i was taking off all of my belts to change my head gasket
