My transfer case sprung a leak from the seal where the transmission stub shaft meets the transfer case. I have the new seal, but to ensure that it doesn't leak again, anyone have any tips on putting it in?

I know you're supposed to tap it in evenly around all sides, but should I be putting any RTV seal anywhere?

Thanks!

Nick you dont need any RTV. What I always do is pac the inside of the seal with vasoline to hold the spring in and give the seal the lube it needs to go on smoothly.
Use a socket of some kind that is the exact same size of the seal it elf and use it while you tap it in with a dead blow or rubber hammer. The socket will make sure the seal goes in straight and not be damaged. This way you get pressure all around the seal not just in one area.

When I replaced my seal in my tranny where my axle meets my tranny (I know its not the tcase but essentially the same thing) I just used the 32mm socket that I used to take off the large axle nut. I rubbed gear oil around the inside of the tranny where the seal sets and the outside of the seal itself. I then used a rubber hammer to tap the socket that is resting on the seal about 3/4 the way in evenly. Since the seal needs to go in evenly at the same time, I just used the axle to push it in the rest of the way because the axle has no choice but to go in at the same time. I am not sure if this will help you at all because I have never worked on an AWD DSM but I thought I would try to help. Goodluck
