To start I have a 91 tsi awd. I soaked my studs on the fuel pump cover and still ended up breaking two studs. Has anyone had any luck replacing them or do I have to go to the extremes of buying a new fuel tank?? I am not one of those put a crap load of silicone on it and hope it works guys either so I hope some one has some good input fo me.

There is a tech article in the "Tech/DIY" section of this website with a how two on replacing fuel pump assembly studs.

My personal method was a little more work, as I pulled up all of the old crap and welded a new ring in with holes drilled out for bolts. Then I welded the bolts in place, slipped the fuel pump assembly over it, and slipped some nuts on there.
