I've been trying to find threads on replacing a wheel bearing, and I decided to order a completely new hub assembly. It seems that a lot of people have a hard time using HUGE pullers trying to seperate the axle from the hub assembly.

I'm trying to figure out what people are talking about when they say this. I recently replaced my clutch and had my axles sitting next to my car without any sort of puller and VERY little effort. Is there something I'm missing? I'm not sure if mine were just very easy to take out (not seized) or if I'm thinking of a different piece (somehow...).

In order to get the hub assembly off, the hardest part is taking the axle out, correct? And all that entails is pulling it out of the tranny and then pulling the splined part that the axle nut attaches to out? I wouldn't even know what to use a puller for in this case...

Solution
Damnit you guys. I waited 2 hours for a response, and right after I get it out I get 3 responses. Just kidding, thanks guys. I did get it out though. I tried lots of different ways, pounding different areas of it and soaking it with Liquid Wrench.

The way that finally worked for me, though, was screwing the 4 retaining bolts back on most of the way, putting a socket on them, and whacking them to hell. I did them in sequence and nudged it off. Kind of a pain in the ass, but I got it.
The only way to do it is the whole hub assy to try and replace the bearings your looking to get hurt or brake something. They are very easy pull tire off brake assy. then lower ball joint, axle nut, remove brake line bracket so it can be pulled out and then remove axle from hub assy and then remove bolts to bearing and then replace back togather just as you took it apart. Good luck.

Ok, I've got everything off including the 4 bolts that bolt the hub to the car. Now how do I get the hub out of there? Do I just need to use a lot of muscle? Is it pressed into there? I have not yet received the hub assembly, but I'm assuming what I'm trying to remove is the same piece I'm getting. I circled what I'm trying to pull out below, is this the "hub assembly?"

That is basically the hub assembly. I just did this in my car. I used a press to get the hub assembly out of the knuckle and then basically used the bolts to screw it back in and press it in using the bolts. It wouldn't come out without a press. You need to completely take the knuckle out to work with it.

I got a short metal pole, pushed it against the back of the hub, and whacked it with a hammer multiple times until it eventually came out. I can also see them rusting in there and needing pressed out.

I hammered mine on a vise using a large socket and couldnt get it to budge (rusted) but the press did wonders

They can be difficult. If you have nothing else, use Zep 45 lubricant or PB Blaster or something of that vintage.

Soak it and bang on it. Repeat as necessary. It will come out.

Just be glad it's not a 1g.

Good Luck
