When I bought my car in December 2012 it came with a few dents, including this doozy:

I want to replace the roof skin with one that has a sunroof. The original roof is spot welded on. Do I need to weld the replacement on as well, or can I just use 3M body panel adhesive and glue it on?

Has anyone here done this before? Pics would be great!

Thanks!

Whatever you do, do NOT put an aftermarket sunroof in your car. The roof on these cars is very curved, and aftermarket sunroofs are very flat. It ends up pulling the sheetmetal up in the corners and looks horrible. The molding also stick above the sheetmetal as opposed to the OEM sunroof which sits flush. They also kill your headroom if you're tall since they have to remove the headliner and build out a frame to cover the internals. Then there's the usual leaking, failures, and other issues associated with aftermarket sunroofs. My car has one and every time I look at it, I want to strip the car and move the parts to a solid roof or OEM sunroof shell.

Well shit, good to know. Guess I'll look to replacing the skin again. Can you post some pics of your roof?

I'm searching www.car-parts.com/‎ for a roofskin, I found a few in CO that I e-mailed.

Replacing the skin is not difficult, simple spot welds.
Finding one (especially with sunroof) is.

Will let you know if i come across a good roof skin in this area. Although shipping of something that big could be tricky.
