Replace Hatch Lift Supports !HELP!

Well I decided its time to replace the gas struts that hold my hatch up. (You know its bad when you have to hold it up with all your force). So I went to shucks and bought the "Eagle Talon replacement Lift Hydrolics" for like $50. When I get to the back of my car I'm faced with a problem - the upper mount for the support is easy to get at, but the lower mount is embedded into the plastic interior of the trunk. Looks like I might have to pop it off, any ideas? Dont want to crack the plastic.

Just take it off. It's not hard to do.

Park it in the sun if you can, try to get that plastic up to temp before trying to remove it.

The shocks always get weaker in colder weather.
