Im going to swap almost all the body panels possible on my 1990 talon to 1992 talon body panels, but that wont happen until summer. For now I want to just repaint the stock 90 spoiler. Is it possible to just take it off and do a DIY job? Could it be done with some prep and spray paint?

Why wouldn't it be? Go for it! I have repainted parts with a spray can before and it turned out quite good after a little buffing and wet sanding. Just make sure to prep very good (sand and clean, and dont forget tack cloths). Besides that go for it! :thumb:

Errrmmm Im not very experienced in the ways of prepping....Are there any sites out there that can help? Im pretty good at spraying (sprayed r/c bodies alot), its just the prep part that eludes me.

Ask a body shop. Tell them you want them to do the painting... but you'll do the prepping to save money.

Basically, roughly sand with fine grit to roughen up the surface or remove whatever paint is on there (if there are any), then paint with primer. Sand with even finer grit (2000 and up) or wet sand to smooth the primer, and repeat. A good primered surface makes a big difference. Once you're satisfied with the primer coat(s) wash with soap and let dry to remove any grease from the pieces then start painting. Wed sand after first coat, and put on another coat. Repeat until you've got smooth even coverage. Final step is to use some agressive finish polishing compound to polish... then follow up with less aggressive polishes until surface is smooth and shiney.

Could I just do it with some generic black high gloss spray paint, or some type of DupliColor stuff? This doesnt have to be a top notch job, this is just a temporary fix until summer when I convert everything from 90 to 92 body
