Whats the proper procedure to remove the bellhousing from the transmission? I have removed all of the bolts that look to hold it on, but it seems that the linkage is holding it together still.

Any help?

Thank you

You have to remove it from the other side. Basically you'll disassemble the trans and have the gear stack left in the bellhousing side. Then you can replace the bellhousing if that's what your trying to do?

on a dsm the tranny needs to be disassembled and then the gear stacks pulled off. Swap them and the linkage on the new housing and reassemble the tranny.

Agreed with the above post.

vfaq.com has some for DSM tranny's, walk throughts on breaking them down, but I don't know if that applies to Evo's. You'll have to start at the very rear of the tranny, taking each piece off slowly, and taking all inside bolts and gear selectors/levers/etc apart. In the end, you'll have to remove the entire gear sets, and reinstall them into another tranny.

It can be done in a few hours, I did it to a friends GS-T using the vfaq guide, and I hadn't ever opened a transmission before, just swapped. It may sound hard, but it's easy. All you need I believe are a 10/12mm sockets, a correct sized punch, hammer for the punch, and that's about it I believe. Oh, and a penny to get the top set of gears to stop turning so you can unbolt them.

It's a little different then the DSM's. I used to own an 8 and the easiest way was to remove the suspension parts on the drivers side to remove the CV and drop it. :)

Actually this is a 93 Eclipse tranny, what happened was that we were given the wrong axle and tried forcing it in further, and it is now stuck and I was trying to remove it. Can't really get anything through the other side to tap on it with, so we figured pul the bellhousing off so we could tap it out then.
