I did a bunch more damage then I thought when I was trying to take off my hub and now appears that I have to replace the whole passenger side axle. This is for my 1G 93 AWD Talon

Pics here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/maintenance-repairs/401557-axle-seized-hub-im-going-nuts.html

AutoZone has one for $119, not to bad since I am still below the cost that NTB was going to charge to replace the bearings in the first place.

However, I'm a car repair noob, especially when it comes to replacing an axle. I just went to a mechanics shop to ask if they know a place to get them reconditioned and we got to talking and said I may have to pull the engine out or get the car jacked up about 1.5" feet to get to it :ohdamn:

Anyone had to do this before and recommend a good way that I dont break anything else? I looked around the forum, but not sure if its easier to just replace the lower cv joint or the buy a whole new axle shaft with new cv joints.

No you don't have to pull the engine. And 1.5 feet sounds about right.;) However, 1.5" feet I'm not too sure about.WTF LOL

Just get a new complete axle and you'll be good to go.:)

What he ^ said.

Get new axles. Removing the old ones usually isn't too big of a hassle. There is a retaining clip on the end of the axle spline that fits into the transmission, this little bastard can make it a little difficult to get it out, but just get a rubber mallet and a big flat blade screw driver, wedge the flat blade between the inner CV joint and the transmission. See if you can pry it out at first, if it won't budge, then give the butt of the screw driver a few good wacks. It should act like a wedge and slowly slide it out. A medium sized pry bar may help also.

Good luck!

What i use is a big set of channel lock pliers...Open them up all the way...cover each side with a shop towel so's not to scratch anything.Pull the axel out by hand slightly...put the CL's where they fit between the trans and axel...light grip...tap with a rubber hammer...and "POP" ... out they come:thumb:
