I am doing the BS elimination and need to get teh oil pump sprocket off. I am going to do the "free" BS removal method. I tried loosening the sprocket while the belt was still on the car but it wouldnt budge. So I took the belt off and removed the oil pump cover. Like the retard I am, I cut the rear shaft before removing the oil pump sprocket! I have tried everything I can think of to get the sprocket off, but am not having any luck. I didnt know about sticking a screwdriver in the block to block the rear shaft untill now when the shaft is out of the car haha!

Anybody have any sugestions for me?

Alright, finally got it off! Used a set of channel locks and a rag along with a long breaker bar. But I think the bolt that holds the gear onto the rear balance shaft had more torque on it then the oil pump sprocket, jeez!

LOL I remember trying to tighten that sprocket during my rebuild. Good job man.

Ok got the pump assembly back together, put a new seal on the oil pump sprocket and that side is taken care of. I got the entire lower timing belt gasket kit so I have the crank seal and front balane shaft gear seal.

I am having problems removing the crank seal, it is being stubborn. Is it just me or is there more to this seal then just rubber? Seems like there is a metal ring below the rubber? Anyone have any tips to remove?

[Edit]
Ok got that seal out, not as hard as I thought :p

Next got the front balance shaft out enough to slide the new bearing onto it and started to push it back and it got stuck, I guess I need to tap it slightly into place. But I have to go to work :(

sorry to thread jack, and to revive a old thread but i have a similar problem.... i got the oil pump sprocket bolt off, but the sprocket it self wont come off... do i just pry it off??? i really wanna replace the seal... the front case is install on the block, but its on a stand not in the car... ### help... thanks

It should just pry off. If it is stubborn, take a rubber mallet or block of wood and knock it a few times to try and loosen it up.
