oil pump sprocket tightness ?

Okay, so its fairly easy to spin with the ratchet, but when it comes to turning it with my hand, its pretty hard...

is it alright to put it back on?

There shouldn't be any real resistance when rotating the oil pump. So you should be able to rotate it by hand. Pull it off and open it up just to be sure.

I agree with killa dsm, you should be able to turn the sprocket with your fingers easily. It would be best to take the cover back off and check.

That's no good. When I put in my BSEK the sprocket still turned with the same effort as it did stock. Something is wrong. Where did you get your stubby shaft from?

did u torqh it to spec for all the screws and the pully. it should not be that hard to turn by hand. i would also pull it apart and take a caliper an measure the new stub shaft and the stock shaft and see if they are the same.

I was having this same problem today. Saw this wasnt resolved in this post and couldnt find anything else with searching so i decided to take another look. I had to trim the actuall case down. The sprocket once troqued was rubbing and cutting into one of the support ribs in the casting. (ITM case, not oem).

Dont file down too far. I opened up what looks to be just a void in the casting but who knows if oil is going to come out of it...

any more info on what it turned out to be 98mitsubishigst ? I am seeing the same problem on my friends car that I am trying to fix. However not as much tension as the above video but more tension than the stock setup. The oil pump, oil pump gears, balance shaft elimination kit are all brand new and OEM parts. Car has only 50 miles on it since the install, not sure if it was initially like that during the install or got like that after 50 miles.
