I have an evo 3 16g with a stock 02 housing. I have an evo 3 o2 housing I want to put on, but is it possible to remove the old o2 housing and install the new one without removing the turbo? If so, how?

Sounds a lot easier than trying to get the O2 housing off with everything still in the car. One easily accessable bolt as opposed to a bunch that aren't. Considering that I have to pull the manifold to fix the busted stud, I might give it a try. Anyone know the torque for the v-band clamp bolt on an EVO III 16g?

The only "issue" with putting on the Evo III O2 housing without taking off the exhaust manifold and turbo is securing the O2 sensor itself. You cannot install the sensor while the housing is off because the new location of the sensor blocks one of the bolts which needs to be tightened. I was able to secure the sensor "enough" to where the sensor has not jiggled out over the past few weeks, but if I could I would have liked to give it another 1/16th (or 1/32nd) of a turn. Not that big of a deal, though.

Did mine today. I removed the hot side of the turbo. Few tips (i think they have already been said, but ill just go through what i did)

Be sure to remove alt fuse (i blew mine by o2 sensor poking through the orange shield thing on the side)
Remove dipstick if you put o2 sensor in the housing beforehand (probably should, it didnt look like much room to get it tight after mounting the housing. Lets hope my sensor never goes out)

I was putting in the xspower non dumped o2 housing. One thing i found out after it was in was that the bolt hole for the downpipe closer to the housing has very little room, so you have to put the bolt in before you mount the o2 housing to the hot side. If you dont then you can do what id id and have the nut up top instead of on the bottom side, but it was a pain to get it tight enough.

I do still have some minor boost creep which kinda sucks, but at least its not as bad as it was before.

I did mine in a funny way. I took off the Exhaust manifold and the downpipe. Then I removed the V-Band Clamp nut and the clamp itself. And carefully removed the Turbine housing/02 housing as one peice.

I wanted to update this thread since I just got done doing this last week. I must say that removing the turbine housing & O2 housing as one piece was so easy. I unbolted the V-Band clamp and took a rubber mallet and tapped on the turbine housing. 2 or 3 light taps later, everything came off in one piece. I made sure that I had someone there to help hold the assembly when I pulled it off since I was under the car at the time.

Just be careful that you don't smack the housing into the fins and you will be fine.

Worked like a charm!! Thanks Sean!

No prob, I had another DSMer come over to my hose and we did his. This was said before, but I'll say it again. PULL THE ALTERNATOR FUSE. We failed to do this. Normally, it's not needed because there is a plastic cover over the Alternator B+ terminal, but his was missing and I fried myself a little and blew the fuse. No biggie, just scared the living sh*t out of me.
