Removing Frozen Wiper Arms [Merged 9-8] arm wipers windshield stuck taking off

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

You need to take off the cover on the base of the wiper arm that covers the nut. Then unscrew the nut and pop the wiper arm off. It'll be tight so you can do it the right way and use a puller or the ghetto way and use a pair of vise grips. Position one jaw on the motor shaft and the other on the bottom edge of the wiper arm and squeeze until the arm pops off. You might want to do it with a rag on the jaws to prevent scratching anything.

As rudementary as that sounds that is basically all you have to do. Just pull really hard. If it is stuck try rocking it around to break up the dirt and build up inside of the wiper. The arm actually has a round open at the end of it that slides over a motor with little grooves thats why it sticks.
good luck

use a small pair oi pliers and press on the bolt from aboive and the underside of the wipers from below(i dont know how else to explain it)

or use pliers and giggle till they come off

u can also use a small puller(wré have ome that are especially designed to pull wiperarms off)

but dont slip and break ur windschield!:thumb:

Yeah, they're on a tapered stud, and with years and corrosion they'll tend to seize-on. PB Blaster couldn't hurt, just don't hose on so much you fill the vent intake with stink.

Mine look awful and I'd like top slap a coat of flat black paint on them, but I'm not sure how to get them off (not the blades, but the whole wiper assembly). If anyone knows how to do this I'd appreciate it if they shared their insights so that I don't have to lay towels all over the car and do it that way.

Thanks!

Andy

i took mine off of my 1st gen and there should just be a bolt that holds them on at the end of the wiper arm, but im not absolutely sure since i dont have a 2nd gen...well anymore. good luck

Ghost,

It's just like you said. The thing that stumped me was that little rubber filler cap. I never thought of pulling that off. Doh!

Thanks a bunch for the help,

Andy

I have been trying to remove my front windshield wipers so I can respray them black. However they wont come off. I have put WD40 on the nuts but that didnt help. Anybody got any idea as to how I can loosen the nuts? :talon:

Try something stronger like PB blaster and let it sit.

That tool is awesome. ^^^^ I need one of those. Where can you buy one? What I did is have someone have someone hold something under the wiper prying it up. Better if they use 2 tools on opposite sides at the same time. While they were prying up I took a punch and hit down on the spindle with the bolt still in it but pretty loose, so I didnt mess up the threads. Yes it was a ghetto way of doing this, but it worked. I also use liquid wrench, I think it might work a little better than WD-40.

The screw that bolts the wipers to the car. They are right underneath those plastic caps. :talon:
I was afraid of that. It's not a good place to try and use heat (plastic, glass, and other delicate stuff in the area), and getting penetrant into them is iffy. Try PB Blaster.
For the wiper jacks, search the web for "wiper removal tool". I think that first one is an OTC, and the second a Lisle.

WOW I am glad I read this thread and another similar to this topic. I thought my was stuck as well. I pulled hard to the point that I thought I was going to break something. All I did was lift the arm off the window and jiggle it a little and it came right off quite easy. Try that before you start hauling ass on the arm and break something.

Cheers
