Alright i figer sence it boggs down my motor really badly when on, i herd it weigh's a little bit, + spinning 1 more belt, i should just take it all off washington never gets all that hot =P, Anyone got tip's/tricks what do i all take off, compressor, belt, pully?? how many lines running to it?

Hey, i took my AC system out of the car. So if you want to do so just follow these simple Steps

1) First you need to discharge all the freeon or whatever you call that refrigerant. To do so, find the little valve next to the power steering reseviour. It sotra looks like a valve stem for a tire. You need to release the crap inside. My opinion do it outside cause its not the best for ## health.

2) Take off the AC belt

3) Once thats done, start to disconnect the hoses, there is one going from the AC compresson to the condensor, then one from the condenser to the firewall (Next to the fuel filter)

3) After you do that, i would do the AC compressor next, but you could take out the condensor next, its your choice. Disconnect the clips, or harness that is attatched to the compressor.Get under the car, and look for the bolts that hold the AC compressor to the little bracket thats its bolted to the Block. Be carefull at this point that you dont drop the compressor on ## face.

4) If you want to take out the bracket thats it bolted to the block you can, I did.. but if your going to put it back in the car... then leave it!

5) If you want to make ## job alot easier and ALOT less painfull, take off the front bumper cover, you will need to access the condensor at this point, that is if you are going to take it out....

6) take off the bolts that hold the condesor to the chassis. Make sure not to damage the power steering line which cools the fluid. After you are done with that, replace the front bumper cover and your good.

This job took me about 45 mins, its really not hard to take it apart, i think we wighed all the stuff in at 30-50 pounds, thats with everything in the AC system removed!

Good luck!

Wow, Thank you Um is there a pully i take off too? also whats the condesor? will there be a line leading too it so ill pritty much know what it is (guessing its behind the bumper) also do i need to cap anything off like a vacuume line? THANKS!

:nono:..Not to mention very illegal. Discharging your freon into the atmosphere is a huge nono. be careful you don't have any nosy neighbors around when you do. I have a friend in the A/C business and he warned me sometime ago, if you get caught the fine is pretty hefty.

For a few bucks, maybe free if your nice, take it to a local A/C shop and ask them to evacuate the system for you. It's safer and legal.:thumb:

if you want to gut your interior ac box.

take the dash out. you'll see a box with some type of controll unit on top. undo the bolts and pull it towards you.

unclip the wires and pull it out.

there are 4 like clips and 4 screws. Undo them and take the lids apart. pull the guts out. put everything back together. you'll have to cap where the lines go into the engine bay and where the drain tube. very easy and will save you around 15-20lbs.

First off: Discharging your refrigerant to the atmosphere can result in a $25,000 fine.

With that said, your A/C compressor has a clutch built into it which means that when it's turned off, you're literally just spinning the belt as well as a light pulley. If you're that concerned about parasitic drag (which is negligible, you'll notice no difference) then just pull off the belt. You also won't be removing much weight, so unless this is going to be a full out race car, there's no point.

For all of 20lbs of savings (Which is the equivalent of going 0.02s faster in the 1/4 mile) it's really not worth it. Just my $0.02.

complete ac removal is upwards of 40 lbs ^

less drag on the engine. Plus it gives you space to put a jays racing alt kit back there. It cleans and declutters the engine bay.

i personally dont use my ac much. I'd rather hear the sound of a 38mm dumped tial with the windows down

Like I said, the only time you get any actual drag on the motor is when the A/C is turned on, otherwise you're just spinning a pulley. Good point on the alternator relocation though.

NOT saying im going to or anything, But how would anyone know i let out the freons of w/e u cant see it or anything isnt it just like air (look wise) cause i kinda live out in the middle of no where, NOT SAYING! im gunna go do it
