Hey guys I have a remote start question hopefully someone can help. I have an Avital 4103 remote start and keyless entry. I cut the wires running from the antenna receiver attached to my windshield on accident (don't ask). Now it obviously does not work. There are 3 wires. Red, black, and green. Red=power, black=ground that much I know. What is the green and where and how can I re-hook this antenna so my stuff works again? Any help is appreciated

:pray::pray:Oh PLEASE:pray::pray::pray:tell me you did not hook red and black to +12V and Ground!

Just solder and tape (or crimp) them color to color back into the antenna wiring coming from the remote start. Make sure you insulate them from each other, and you won't have an issue any more.

:aha:OR you could try going to your local DEI (Directed Electronics Inc.) dealer (Usually your local mobile electronics shop:thumb:, or Best Buy:notgood:) and ask to buy a replacement antenna wire for your remote start or the comparable model (they might carry Avital, but it might be Viper, Hornet, Sidewinder, Python, Automate, or Clifford. DEI has a lot of different product lines). If it's old enough that it's only got the 3 pin, they might just let you have one for free...

Good luck (and hopefully you don't need to buy a new antenna too because you hooked it to power:ohdamn:)

LOL no I did not hook it wrong. It was installed professionally. The antenna was running up from under the dash and was mounted on my windshield. I was messing with wires and cut the whole harness going to the antenna, thinking it was for the visor garage door control stuff. I can not seem to find a replacement harness as avital went out of business. Maybe if I can find an old one I can snatch it up, and yes it is old 3 wire plug so I have my fingers crossed.

I've got current Avital product on my shelves at work, I assure you they are still in business. Even if they no longer made that model, it's still a Directed Electronics part. Just find out where your nearest DEI dealer is, and contact them. Ask them if you can buy a new 3 wire antenna wire for your DEI remote start.

OR you could just eBay it...

oh wow. I tried Audio Express and they said that Avital is no longer around. They said that is why they don't carry them anymore. You said you had one on the shelf at work , but do you guys sell just the wires or is that harder to come by? (selling just the wire)

I'm sure that if you walked into the store, we could figure something out, but shipping an antenna from a unit that works just fine is probably not viable.

I checked your profile, and it says you're in Mesa, AZ. I went to school for mobile electronics in Tempe. It should be no problem at all for you to find PLENTY of nearby install shops that would be willing to sell you the antenna wire. I even remember hearing commercials for an install shop that did installs for $1...

I also checked out Audio Express' website, and they list Viper as one of the brands they carry. Typically DEI dealers don't carry multiple lines of the product, but prefer to focus on just one. Since they appear to be a 'box store' they'll be less likely to part out a working system. Since Avital and Viper are both DEI products, the 3-pin antenna wire from either will work on your system. All you've got to do is find someone who's willing to play ball...

Good luck!
