refilling oil

Hey guys, I recently just replaced my oil drain line from my turbo and I lost a lot of oil from the pan. I was just wondering if I should see oil covering the cams when I take off the oil cap on the head. It's a noob question but I just wanted to make sure before I start her up.

There will be a light film of oil, but at no time will you see inches of oil in there.

About how much oil did you lose? If not that much then start it up check your pressure and then check the dipstick.

I've lost a little more than a quart. I've already filled it up though about a quart through the dipstick. I was just wondering if I should be filling it up in the head also.

eheheeheh. sorry, had to giggle at that. You can always fill through the oil cap. It will drain it's way down into the pan.

Yes, the oil fill cap is a good place to fill the oil. The automatic tranny is the place You have to use the dipstick to fill.

Ohh okay, should I fill it up all the way to the top in the head? I know it's funny, when I took off the return line I forgot to get a plug for it and it all just came out, ran down my arm into my sweatshirt too, haha.

Well your dipstick probably has oil all over it now, so I'd clean it off real good. Then I'd fire it up for 10 seconds. Shut it off and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then check the oil level on the dipstick. If it's low add some more. I believe the difference between the "full" and "low" lines is 1 quart. So add accordingly once you check the dipstick.
