Hey all,
I have a 96 GST and have a few questions with turbo boost, and lag
Right now im almost positive i don't have a boost leak, i've done a check a couple months back. However under the hood are those stock rubber hoses that run from the intake to the turbo and such. I rev it up to see the boost, and those hoses expand A LOT! so i am wondering if that will be a big factor?

If so can where can i buy those aluminum ones i see that everyone else has under there hood and how hard are they to install? I want all rubber/expandable hoses removed from turbo system. A kit i presume? Thanks so much

Are you still running a stock t-25 turbo? If you are, you already have minimal turbo lag. There a few tricks to reducing turbo lag, but you need to have adjustable cam gears and a good tuning system.

yea still stock t-25, Hmmm i am now rethinking, it just seems like those metal pipes will have a big difference but other threads are saying differently. I hope this reduces my problem. Do i need a whole kit or just the upper and lower IC pipes?

...i would go drive it and find out for you but as it is snowing out it is stored for the winter. I have the stock boost gauge and i know thats accurate *kidding*. ummm if i had to take a rough guess. starting at 0mph and just gunning it. It takes a few seconds for the engine to figure out wats going on. then it goes up to about 4 or 5k before full boost is in effect if i had to guess

Guy in Grand Rapids MI has a shop called Modified FX. Gona contact him. He does all sort of import stuff. Gona see if he can possibly do a ECU program to make it more aggressive/ work how it's suppose to!

I'm curious to know how you're watching the hoses expand from boost generated while free-revving the engine with no load.

revving in park, Also to confirm b/c boost isn't gnerated while in park it appears i put in drive with all brakes on and blocks. those hoses expand atleast another quater inch all around

Your turbo shouldnt have ANY lag, you need to redo the boost leak test and check for pre-turbo exhaust leaks and make sure the wastegate and flapper are in proper working condition, no binding and that its able to open. While your at it check for shaft play.

I'm thinking this is just a case of "no power at 1500rpm, what gives?" The T-25 will spool faster than light even with a fat boost leak. Expect power to come on by 2800rpms (often much sooner) and you should really feel that torque hit at around 3-3.5k, things are fun until around 5k and then the show is all over.

Get a boost gauge, do another BLT, skip the hard pipes and save that money for a turbo/ic upgrade.

Well i will be sure to do all this BLK again when i have the garage available, I apreciate all help and input on this thread. I have decided to take my next grand and invest in the big 16G turbo with all the things that must accompany it!

Ok I would suggest going through DSMgraveyard in kzoo. I have never heard of the shop you just stated.. they can hook you up on everything you need.. You defidently have a problem that is not related to the pipes... Something else is messed up...

Do they have a webiste? and...at this point i see cheap gst-gsx around here ALL THE TIME. all built up with the 16g turbo etc etc for only 3500$$. would it be worth it to look at one of those? i mean my car frame is solid though. Not a spit of rust anywhere. sure it needs to get repainted but i'm going for the sleeper look anyhow
