Well, i just picked up a 92 gsx that was a recovered theft. The car runs great, but the only way to start it is to hot wire it, as whoever stole it destroyed all wiring and switches on the steering column. I mean everything, blinkers/wipers, horn, ignition, etc. The picture isn't great, but it kinda shows how bad it is, and the drivers side of the wheel is the same. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a place where i can buy this stuff, and if it's year and model specific or if all 90-94 switches and wiring will work. It looks like most of the wiring plugs in right under the dash, so it may be a plug and play operation if i can find the parts. thanks to anyone who helps.

Your looking at a big wiring headache. I would find a rolling chasis in good condition, and swap over your engine and trans. It will be ALOT easier. Then, part out the car you just bought to make up for buying the chasis.

^^You're kidding?

Have someone splice in new wires. People have been stealing cars for years, im sure theres tons of specialists. Look in the phone book, or call a dealership or body shop.

No kidding, and engine and trans swap is NOT easier than replacing a steering column, even if it's not all plug and play, 2 hours with a soldering iron and some heat shrink should fix you up good :D

(only downside, you'll have two keys for the car)

All he has to do is get the key code for the car and have the pins changed in the ignition lock cylinder. Any decent locksmith can do this easily.

You'll want to get a hold of all of the wiring and stuff from a 92-94. The 89-91 has some different wire colors and some of the stuff is switched around (plus there is some extra stuff for the headlights).

Take a look at a junk yard, it's not turbo\nt specific and you can find tons of 1g's in junk yards anymore (there are at least a dozen in the area around my house in Michigan, and I saw tons of them when I was with a friend junk yard hopping in NY about a month ago)

providing the plugs aren't different from year to year, all of the wiring that got chewed up unplugged from right underneath the dash, near the stearing column. So if i can get the parts, it plugs straight in to the harness. If anyone knows if the plugs differ from year to year please let me know before i buy one from someone on the boards. Thanks,

I have most of the wiring out of my car and its not terribly hard. First of all parts, you can find harnesses in good condition off of DSMtrader, thats where I got all mine. Getting them brand new will cost you more than you parid for the car probably.

From the looks of the picture it seems like the only damaged harness if the Ignition harness. You dont have to, but to make it easier you can remove the dash, its kind of a pain in the ass but I did it with no help and it makes getting at the wires easier. All wires on that harness end wither about 2/3 way down the steering column or in the fuse block by the diagnostic plug. Its simply unpluging the connections and unmounting the harness and replace. The HVAC system will be a PITA to work around but it can be done.

Half-cocked, thanks for the confirmation as to the wiring harness connecting under the dash, and also for the info on the 91-94 plug being universal. I think i have a column switch, ignition, both door handles, and a key lined up for 50-60 dollars, so that should solve my problem. The only lock that won't match is the hatch, but i can live with that, as i always use the lever at the base of the seat anyways. Thanks to everyone who provided useful information.
