I am getting a rebuilt engine with the following modifications: JE Pistons .20 over, eagle rods, crank scraper, multi layered steel head gasket, stainless steel valves, titanium springs and retainers, melling oil pump, dual stage oil cooler with remote oil filter kit, upgraded alternator pulley, unorthodox crank pulley, unorthodox cam gears. comes with intake manifold, fuel rail, (no injectors), comes with upgraded PT cruiser lasher, (need to be installed). No exhaust manifold, power steering, etc.. Just the motor. Here's a good question, Is $3000 too much to pay for this engine? I need input ASAP cause i only have until April 7th to decide if i want it.

So...the only mods on my car are a cold air intake and a performance chip which isn't jack diddly. What do i need so i am sure not to hurt anything. maybe full exhaust w/ header...Also, what fuel injector's should I buy or would the stock ones on my old engine be fine for now. Lastly, I believe the compression rate will be 8.8:1 which is for a turbo and unfortunately, I won't have a turbo for a while. How should i tune it to run N/T and how much will it cost? Thanks guys.

Well 1st: at the very end you said "I won't have a turbo for a while." So you eventually want one then? Why don't you spend your $3000 on a kit instead of the rebuild? Just a friendly question.

Good point, you can build the living sin out of a 420A, but you're not going to get sh!t out of it without a turbo. Spending $3000 on a HAHN Stage 2 Turbo kit for a STOCK 420A will put you in the mid 13's, spending $3000 on all-motor might put you in the low 15's to high-mid 14's. But if that is the way you want to go, a fully built, all-motor 420A from HOWELL AUTOMOTIVE will run you over $3000...I'd talk him down to $2500.;)...all in all, yes...you are paying too much, there is only about $1500 worth of parts there. My suggestion is to look around at your options before you make a decision.

The thing is though, I can't get around getting a new engine. I blew up my last one. Cracked block, warped head, and head gasket blew. So...I have to replace the block, and head, so i figured why not get a new engine with all of the internal mods to go along with it. That way, I get the internals out of the way because i WILL do them eventually and this would save time. And by later, I meant end of summer. Plus, I would be equipped for a HAHN stage 3 turbo with the internals and after i get the clutchmaster clutch which is where i want to take my car by the end of the year. So, basically what i'm saying is, I am doing it all within this year so I want start with the internals and work my way outward since it is all getting done anyways. I was just wondering how much the whole engine should cost me, and what are some missing components that would help the engine run better(i.e. fuel injectors, exhaust, and what cams i should use). Sorry for not being more clear with everything. Thanx guys. oh, and here is a pic of the engine... is it worth it? If not, where should i go and what should i do?

Dayamn, that's a fine looking piece of machinery :D But since you said that you're doing all this in a year (another dayam- that's fast) then it doesn't really matter all that much what you do fisrt. But if you want my opinion, do the internals 1st-like you said, then the turbo in the summer. $3000 seems a bit high for all that stuff.....I would try to get it around $2500 or so (I don't think that you're gonna find a better deal anytime soon and this motor that you're buying sounds pretty serious).

And as far as the missing components I would get stuff that further preps your car for the turbo....like exhaust with a 3" diameter piping and proly something like 550cc injectors. So I hope this all helps let us know if you got anymore questions and if you get it or not.

Well considering I bought just my built stroker block from Howell for $2600+tax and then got the head done for another $1500, I think that the deal you are getting is not too bad.

Yeah you wont be fast as you can be without the turbo, but as you said you plan to turbo in the near future. The car wont be that slow either. You can expect to lose a little hp but its not going to make you hate the car while you are waiting to get the turbo kit.

Its a good idea to get a built motor now while you NEED a motor period especially if turbo is in your future.

Buy it.

BTW that looks like James ( siueclipse ) motor from 2gnt.

Isn't that a picture of suieclipse's motor. If so I'm sure that is good. It has been tuned well from dyno and should be very healthy.

Looking around for a thick headgasket.. any ideas...

i was looking at felpro... are they any good

man o man that thing looks pretty but it still isnt worth 3grand. for that price i would invest in a 2.2 stroker and then run some boost or maybe even a 2.4, i dont know the price of those. i seen a block on ebay and im sure the tuners classifed can supply you with a head. shoot man i gotta spare head and intake manifold. If you wanna save some cash and build your engine. You can get a thick head gasket from dynoflo.com i paid 65 bucks for mine its copper and 2mm thick. they range from i think 1.2 mm to 2.4 but they are all 65 bucks. You gotta email them to get info. it appears as a v8 only site but i bought my internals and head gasket from them.
