Its finally time for my 1st rebuild. I want to make sure I have not missed anything.

Have:
6bolt block - Ross pistons/rings, Eagle rods, Clevite bearings, BSE, ARP Main and Rod bolts (crank has been turned and block hot tanked and decked)

1G head - new viton stem seals, Evo springs, stainless steel valves (std. size), supertech bronze valve guides, 3G lifters, ARP Head studs

Cometic gasket set with OEM head gasket (intent to reuse ascessories like front case, water pump, etc.), OEM Timing Belt

ACT 2100 Clutch Kit (I want to keep pedal pressure close to stock)

My questions: Should the installations of my new head parts be part of a standard valve job? or will this be extra?

What else would I need besides engine oil, transmission fluid (BG Synchroshift?) and coolant?

transmission fluid (BG Synchroshift?)

You will get many opinions on that. BG synchroshift is 70-80W IIRC or something close which I feel is a little too thin to run straight.

I run 1qt Redline MTL, 1.25qt MT-90, and the other .5 is lightweight shockproof.

MTL is 70-80W also, but it is only about 1/3 of what is in my tranny. YMMV.

Get that head decked! I plan on going with ACL bearings but clevites might be good.

Thanks Aaron, I'm going to have the machine shop check and deck the head if necessary. As for ACL, that was my first choice. Clevite bearings was my second choice based on price, performance and availability.

Get a manual, plastigauges (the green ones) to check your tolerances, and some moly-lube for assembly. Also, I know someone mentioned the ACL tri-metals bearings. You're dropping all this money on Ross Pistons, Eagle Rods, BSE... what's another few bucks to get tri-metal bearings over aluminum ones?

What are your plans for the car? HP goals?

i know its an overkill but for $85... you cant go wrong with a kiggly girdle

Im pretty sure its obvious, but i didnt see it on your list... a complete engine gasket set (excluding headgasket)

Hey Richard, the kiggly girdle does sound nice, but unecessary for my hp goals. I will keep it in mind if my budget allows for it. As for the engine gasket set, its on my currently have list - Cometic gasket set from MAP.

Thanks, I'll definitely look into the plastigauges and moly-lube. As for the ACL bearings its what I had ordered, but the machine shop said they could not get them. Something to do with the amount that was cut from the crank.

This was not meant to be a performance build. Most of the parts I bought new from other DSMers who gave up on their own build. My plan is to have a very streetable car when I'm done with a hp rating of about 300hp to the wheels.

I know your on a budget but i would still try to get a new front case/oil pump. Its cheap insurance and its a pain to change later when the motor is in the car. I would also change your T-belt pulleys (tensioner/idler) and your hydraulic tensioner if you can. Other than that you list looks good. Goodluck with the build. :thumb:
