rebuild for 1k .. good?

i have a 96 spyder that im currently working on doing a rebuild ima do just a stock rebuild with stock if not .20 over sized pistons and valves head job n rods not going big cus i just planned on selling it in a bit .. so is 1k for an engine rebuild good ?? if not whats the way to go n were localy in phx

Its probably gonna cost more then that, i spent over 2000 on a full stock rebuild, with parts, labor and machining. you always end up spending more when u start taking things apart.

agreed, the rebuild kit alone is $550 from topline, then machining is another $500ish then waterpump belts ect, my $1000 rebuild turned into $7000 because "while its apart i might as well do this" and it adds up really quickly

I'm going to have about $6500 into a non-turbo to turbo conversion and rebuild and I do all my own work minus machining.

Not cheap that's for sure..

yea well to all u guys i know ### u saying that it always ends up more but yea the guy im taking it to charges me 1700 but thats with me taking the whole car to him but i already took out the engine out my self so im just taking the engine so he can do it n ill put it bak on too but this is just a car that ima sell so im not too woried about replacing small old stuff.. this is just gona be used for a lil bit cus i have another broke down gst .. ### can i say dsm's shoot but i love them . the red one on my default is my baby now to that one ima do evry lil detail. by the way boost junky i love ## car.

1K sound pretty good for a rebuild, you should make sure that other people have had good experiences with the place you are looking to rebuild the motor though, it seems kind of cheap.

1000 for a complete rebuild does seem a bit on cheap side. I'd wager about 3-4 times that would be reasonable.

im also looking to rebuild mine, i have a 97 gst burning oil, i just got a price from the local machine shop for 1700 for a full motor rebuild, including a new oil pump witch is normaly 200 alone ? idk its what he said, any opinions ?

Burning oil could be from a lot of different reasons. You'd have to check a lot of areas to see exactly why you're burning oil. Usually the rings or the valve seals are a common factor.

well i had my mechanic look at it and he automaticaly said it was bad pistons, without doing any real testing, is there testing that can be done? he told me to run syntetic oil for now so that it burns less untill i wana do the rebuild.
