About two weeks ago I had to replace the passenger side rear wheel bearing. After doing that and reinstalling the entire brake caliper assembly as one, that caliper has been dragging its pads pretty bad. I mean I had to replace the pads on that caliper a couple days ago. They were completely gone! I made sure to grease up the the guide and lock pins to make sure it was sliding ok and the same thing is still happening. About 6 months ago I rebuilt and replaced the calipers all around, so I don't think the piston is seizing, and it's odd that it started right after I replaced the wheel bearing. I have stainless braided lines on my calipers.

The only thing I can possibly think of is that something happened to the brake line when I had the caliper off to replace the bearing. I accidently let it slip and it hung from the line for a second. Could it have ruined or kinked the line somehow? I checked it where it connects to the hard line and it looked ok. Why did it start dragging?

Well, you've already mentioned the two most likely causes; blocked line and seized piston. Did you save your old brake lines when you upgraded to SS? If so, why don't you swap the old one back in and see if the problem disappears.

And, don't think that because you rebuilt the caliper that the piston can't be corroded again.

I will get home soon and see if I still have another line. If that's not what it is then I am stumped. The caliper and piston still looked good when I rebuilt it, and it has only been a few months since then, plus I just greased up the guid pins so I don't think it's seizing. I just didn't know if a messed up line could cause it to drag. Maybe if it got pinched or closed up some how the fluid is not coming back out of the line and the pressure is causing them to drag??? Seems far fetched but I'll try changing out the lines tonight.

I found an extra brand new line and replaced it on that caliper. And then I took the car for a good ride... I got to a gas station and filled up. When i got out I immediately noticed the smell. So I bit the bullet and decided to go order a new caliper for $75. The I drove home from the auto parts store and pulled into the garage. Wow did it stink, but... The the heat coming form out of the wheel didn't seem that bad. :) So I walked around to the other side now it's crackling and hot as hell. WTF is going on here!??
