Hey i was just wondering if anyone knows of a big brake kit for the rear on a 1g tsi awd?
i want to upgrade both the back and front brakes.
or if the only option a caliper upgrade with a cross drilled rotor?
thanx
Jeff

tceperformanceproducts.com in Arizona can do it. They use Wilwood calipers if that's the route you want to go. I don't know why you'd want to change the calipers because most of your breaking is up front. I'd just go with changing the rotor's if it's a look thing.

Wouldn't it help to have better calipers... I guess the point is that Bang for you buck... it wouldn't justify spending the mone for the minimal performance gain.

Correct?

You are correct!

considering that on our cars the rear brakes can do only about 20-30% of the stopping at any given time I almost say what's the point of truly upgrading and putting bigger brakes in the back? the front is where you'd truly need it. Just make sure the back are in prime running condition and upgrade the fronts and you'll be more than happy. That is... unless you're going for the look of bigger brakes...then i say woudln't you be happier spending the money on making your car faster? LOL Well... that's the way i look at things... forget about stopping, i want the get up and go!

I've done both FWD and AWD rear kits for the 1G. (admit that the specifics are a bit fuzzy)

The most common on the FWD is simply the rotor upsize package. This was also made to work on the AWD I belieive with some fudging of the parts.

I also did up a small four pot package on one or both of them. ANY change of the caliper will net you the loss of the parking brake. Keep that in mind.

Todd, would it not be possible to find some other type of better OEM rear caliper that supports the parking brake and make that fit on a Talon/Eclipse? I'm sure some custom fabricating would most likely be needed, but do you know of anyone who has done this?

While it 'might' be possible I'm not interested in doing it. Sorry, just not my thing.

Fitting another caliper out there with the parking brake won't change anything unless you get one with more piston area. Replacing it with a brand X car part with the same 1.375 (?) piston is giving the same clamp load. You 'might' find a 1.5" part and that would be more. But when put on the larger rotor as well you'll simply be back to an over rear biased car.
