Ok I snapped a drivers side rear axle the other day while doing like 70 on the highway. I had to flatbed the car to my house. Anyway today I pick up my 3 bolt axle. I took the passenger side axle out and banged the chunk on the axle that was stuck in the rear diff. I put the passenger's side axle in, wen't in smoothly. Now I go to put the driver's side axle in it slide it in, then I start to bang it in. It goes almost all the way in. Like 1/2 inch it had until it was all the way in. After it reached that spot it wouldn't go any further at all. I must of tried for an 1.5 hours to try and get it in, until the boot finally ripped and I just wasted $75. I don't get it it gets to that 1 spot and just won't go in any further. I inspected the teeth inside the diff and they're fine. Is there an easier way of putting em in or something?

You sure there's not a piece of the broken one stuck inside? Also, you can grease up the teeth. It might make it easier to slide it in.

Yeah I'm posotive. I got all the chunks and shavings out. I also greased the end on the axle and inside the rear diff with some white grease I have laying around.

Here's an obvious question....did you get manual or automatic axles.

There will be about that 1/2" difference in an automatic axle.

Hah I hope that's the problem. I got it from Mitsubishi graveyard maybe they could of gave me an auto axle. If I take some pic's tomorrow will you guys be able to tell me what it is? Or does anyone have any pics of an auto axle compared to a manual one?

Anyone have any pictures of an auto rear axle? Wan't to see if before I give the guy a call tomrrow morning.

if it's not an auto axle you can just replace that boot and repack with grease.. easy, don't throw out the axle... if you can use it that is.

Yeah, I'm not gonna throw it out. If it's not an auto axle though, I have no clue what would be the problem. I'm hoping it is. I can't even compare it to the other axle because it's in pieces.
