alright, basically a week or so ago we had a huge snow storm, and i took a turn around 5mph and went over a curb in my 95 awd talon. Whenever i turn the wheel any direction parked or driving/turning theres a really loud/annoying squeel I've done alot of searching and haven't found anything on here. When i had someone turn my steering wheel with the cart parked with my hand on the strut tower i could feel it vibrate while the steering wheel was being rotated. My auto shop teacher said it sounded/felt like a strut tower bearing, after going to auto value they said there is no strut tower bearing, just a rubber piece it sits on. Any ideas?
all replies appreciated id like to get this fixed asap.

From looking on here it sounds like theres a possibility that its a balljoint. had autovalue check on a price they said it needed to be bought as an assembly, lower control arm and balljoint for like $115

Sounds like a similar problem my friend had with his car. His car would squeal when turning the steering wheel either parked or moving and it would also squeal on bumpy roads. Turns out his suspension was wasted. Changed all springs/shocks and the squeal was gone.

It's the spring damper on the car that sits between the spring and the the strut bolts up. If that makes since i had the same problem, your supposed to take it off and clean the surface on it or it says instead of having it sit right ontop of the spring to drop it down a coil...which makes no since to me because then the spring would be sitting metal to metal. let me know if this makes anysince to you ill try and find the shop printout i have on it. But its nothing to worry about.

closest chrysler/mitsu shop that i could get any recall repeaired for free at is over 2 1/2 hours away, so kind of stuck

on the upside, i jacked my car up on a floor jackas i was lifting the squeek slowly quieted down until the tires were off the ground, both balljoints looked fine, no leaks or anything.

besides that one thing cought my eye above the 2 balljoints on the right/up a lil is a shaft with a cv boot about a foot back on it, where it connects theres extra grease all over and its really shiny like its been rubbing maybe a possibiliy, just got home and got it in the air, cold as hell in upper michigan... by the time i got it up my hands already went numb so i thought id check how my threads going.

thanks for the help all ill be back to check this after i get the tire off so i can take a closer look.

sucks, as soon as one things fixed then i have another 3 things to fix. cars such a pain in the ass, and ive already spent like $300+ in the last week on parts.

pretty sure i cant think of anyother place i'd want to spend my money :)

Seems like its been getting louder since this first started squeeking.

Been driving on it like it is for the past week or so.

Still feels driveable, but its annoying as hell.

How long would it be safe to drive on it like this?

Or what would the worst case scenario be if this broke? or popped loose or w/e could happen?

That looks like your tie rod end. From what your describing it sounds like it to. It has a boot about a foot back on the rod. From the picture it just looks like the boot around the end is busted. I dont know if you can replace just the boot or not but I got a whole new tie rod end + boot at napa for 35. You will need an alignment after you fix it however. It should be fine to drive on.

appreciate that, ill get the tire back on and drive to advanced auto see what they quote me for it :)

It will be safe to drive on. Just because the boot is busted doesnt mean the tie rod is bad. Jack the car up and see if the tire moves left to right without actually pulling the tire/wheel. If it has play then the tie rod end is bad. If it doesnt then the boot has just busted and it is fine. Just get the boot/tie rod end replaced. Now if you do happen to replace the whole tie rod end, loosen the nut on the end of the rod that holds the end in place and count how many turns it takes to take it off. Then when re-installing thread the new tie rod end on as many times as it took to take the old one off. This way your alignment will still be very close to what it was before. Then go get a real alignment.
Even if your alignment is off some it wont kill your tires in any amount of low mileage. Im sure there are many vehicles on the road with bad toe, camber etc that just dont care and dont want to fork over 50-70 for an alignment.

That shouldn't be twisted like that tho should it, if it was me and it was the tie rod end i would be cautious, it may not be serious and if it is just the boot than ya you should be ok but i would get it fixed as soon as possible.

ill get it fixed monday, as for the alignment, probably wont get to it until thursday/friday to get it on the alignment rack at school
