Ran Into alittle or could be a big problem???

ok so i have the car getting back together piece by piece but when i was working on the tranny i noticed that the tranny did not want to engage into park??? I opened the hood and was moving with my hand the lever that switches gears but it goes into park but the tranny does not lock into park so i can start the motor???? So i tried to start the car with the lever in the correct place and with the shifter on park and when i turn the car on, it cranks but i hear a bad rattle noise coming from tranny??? Could this be beacause the tranny is not in park and is in a gear??? So my tranny is bad and need a new one??? :? Also if that is the case i found a 1997 eclipse gsx auto. will that tranny fit with my 1998???? i was assuming it will but just wanted to make sure first. Thanx for looking and hopefully helping me out!!!

Yes it will fit. Are you sure you put the converter in all the way and did you bolt it up to the flex plate?

Yup bolt to flex pipe and im pretty sure the converter is in...! damm == so i will have to get this damm tranny!!!>>>>>
