Radiator fans not coming on

About a month ago my fans quit turning on so I replaced my thermo switch and it seemed to solve the problem. However, after a couple weeks I noticed that my fans started not turning on again. I tried to wire the relay so that the fans turn on everytime the key is in the ignition but something messed up and they stayed on after the key was out of the ignition causing my battery to die after a few hours. I removed all the wiring that I had added and my fans are back to not turning on. So at this point I'm fed up and want to buy some aftermarket radiator fans that have their own on/off switch. Any ideas?
