Radiator fan fuse issue

Ok, I have a 97 GST with a 6 bolt swap. Today I went outside to work on my car since it's not my daily driver anymore. The last time I drove it, after fixing some idle surge issues and what not, I got home and shut the car down and noticed that it was "leaking" coolant. Popped my hood and noticed that my overflow bottle was boiling out and there was no leak. No problem I'll check it our at a later time once my car cools off. Today before i went out to work on my car I though maybe I should try replacing the Fan control switch, and Temp sensor since I'm running the ones that were in the 1g thermostat housing that my buddy had in his attic full of DSM parts. Get the switch and sensor swapped out, fill the radiator back up with 50/50, and start the car to make sure there are no air bubbles anywhere in the system. After about 5 min the car is up to normal operating temp and the coolant system seems to be operating normally. I put the cap back on and then pull up DSM link to make sure everything is going smoothly. a few min later there is steam coming from my open hood and the overflow bottle seems to be boiling over. shut the car off and check all wire connections. Everything is hooked up correctly, so I check the fuse.... you guessed it blown. Not a problem go get a new one and replace it. Using Link I turn the fans on with out the motor running, they turn on for a sec and then... surprise, surprise.... the fuse blows again. I don't know what's causing this since I didn't touch the fan wires when I did the 6 bolt swap, and the fans worked fine before the swap. I did remove the A/C and all parts associated with it along with all my emission stuff. Could this cause my fans to blow the fuse like that or should I try putting in a 40amp fuse instead of the 30 amp one? Any ideas, please help.

Putting in a larger fuse is never the answer. Maybe during the install you snagged or pinched the wires and a short developed. Check the wires for any damage. If you have an ohmmeter you can check the isolation of the wires.
 
So removing all my AC components doesn't have anything to do with the fan drawing too much current and blowing the fuse? Also when I did remove all the AC components I left the conectors open, could that cause this?
 
You could check your fans with a DMM too. I had a fan motor coil on an older car malfunction and draw waaaay too much current.

I don't think open connectors would cause the issue, provided the connectors are clear and nothing is interfering with them to cause a short.
 
I have a couple suggestions, it could be that the wires on the fan melted and are shorting out. This happens if you aren't using a heat shield on the exhaust but tipically occurs on the a/c fan since it's closer to the exhaust. Or, the wires on the fan are corroded which would create a big resistance when the fan turns on.
 
Sorry I forgot to mention I am running a Flex-a-lite twin slim fan, and I have a tubular O2 housing with an open dump. So I'll go out today and check to make sure the wires aren't melted or anything like that. I'm also running an EVO 3 Big 16G so I no longer have any of the stock heat shields in place. If I find out that the wires are melted I'll look into getting some exhaust heat wrap and possibly a turbo heat wrap as well. Thanks for all the advice, I'll keep everyone posted.
 
Ok, I know this thread seems to have died, but I'm bringing it back up because I think I might have finally found the issue causing my fuse to blow. I have both the fans wired into one connector and it seems that the fan that's in front of my turbo has come off the fan motor shaft. That or it melted off and it's now very hard to turn since it is rubbing on the radiator. If I were to cut the wires on this fan and just run the other side would I have any issues with over heating? If so would it be a good idea for me to get a new single puller fan for one side of the radiator, and a pusher for the other side? Or should I just go with one big pusher fan and call it good?
