So I have decided that it is time for me to upgrade from my gst to a gsx. :D I am looking for a clean gsx shell and to swap my 7 bolt motor out of my gst and put it into the gsx shell. I know that the transmission, clutch, and flywheel will not work from my gst but is there anything else that I will need in order to complete this swap? This is my first motor swap I will be doing so I am learning as I go. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the clutch and the pressure plate will work it is the flywheel that is different. don't forget to get the plate that bolts between the engine and transmission from the GSX, it lines up the starter. the GST starter is in a different location than the GSX so if you try to use the GST plate the starter wont go in. also make sure you get a GSX down-pipe the GST one wont work either. other than that, you might run into some problems with wire harness issues if you are putting a 97 engine into a 99 or visa versa but you will have to cross that bridge when you get there.

Well thats good news that I can use the clutch from my gst since I have an ACT2600 with a street disc already. That saves me a little bit of cash. As far as the wiring shouldn't the harnesses be the same? Ideally I am trying to find a 95 gsx shell so that way I do not have to worry about passing emissions in my state (massachusetts). And Im not worried about the downpipe as I plan on running the new STM forward facing turbo setup so that will require a custom downpipe anyways. But I will make sure I get a hold of the gsx plate between the engine and trans. Thanks for the quick response.

if the gsx already has all the drive terrain parts should be fairly easy iv pulled motors in gst and gsx's and they are very similar set up

if your pulling the engine out of that 98 GST in your profile then there will be a couple of differences it is all dependent on how you want to do it... for example if you want to use the 95 ECU and wire harness then you obviously will need to adapt the wiring to work with the 98 CAM and crank sensor or find a 95 - older CAS to put on your 98 engine. if the plan is to stick with the 98 wiring and flashable ECU then that would be the easiest i suppose being that you won’t need to worry about emissions stuff. otherwise the problem you are going to run into is that i believe the charcoal canister is in a different location on the 95 cars compared to he 98 or maybe just the 99's. i am not sure if there are any other differences in wiring...

I do plan to use the motor in my gst right now. I do have a 95 ecu already because I have ecmlink v.3. I am not worried about emissions as I already deleted them in my gst, including the charcoal canister. I saw on a dsm vendors website that they sell a wiring adapter to use my CAS with an older harness. So this seems like it wont be as difficult as I thought. Thanks guys for the quick responses.
