Regina,
I am in the process of taking the head off of my 90 tsi parts car, everything is good to go except for the head bolts. i was just wondering if you can spray any liquid wrench on them or is that not a good idea. Also is their any easy way to go about removing them? should i worry about breaking them. Any help is appreciated. :thumb:

Just make sure you use a 12pt socket obviously and a breaker bar leverage is your friend. I also have not heard of anyone breaking one.

he said studs not bolts. If they are studs theres no way u will break them, they wont be hard to get off just breaker bar em.

head studs i'm not sure on. the easiest way though to get enough torque that i found is to take an 8 foot section of fence pipe and slip it over thet handle of your ratchet (breaker bar). i got mine loose in about 5 minutes after fighting the damn things four 2 hours. then again i am rather on the weak side so maybe you can get them off just by yourself.

the haynes manual says they are a 13mm allan key/wrench. i have a small 13mm that is supposed to go on the end of a screwdriver, but i just put it on the end of the ratchet with an extention, so now i should just take a peice of pipe or something and just reef on the ratchet till i break them loose??

Damn head bolts!! Impact gun didn't work. Ended up using a piece of galvanized steel piping to break them loose. I used the Husky (Home Depot) allen keys since they have a lifetime warranty. ;) If you have head bolts, I doubt that liquid wrench will penetrate to the threads.

If there aftermarket ARP Head Studs then they are a normal MM socket. If they are the stock HEAD BOLTS then they are a torx socket. Haynes should say what size then go to sears or someplace and buy one. I forgot exactly what size torx size it is.
