Ok, I have been reading up on turbo boost gauges for my 98' eclipse gs-t. I have searched the forums for everything on installation and have a fairly good idea of what installing a boost gauge involves. However, I just need to know...

I am 16, and I have limited experience working on turbo engines, so would it be best for me to have the gauge professionally installed, or is it easy enough to do myself? Is it best to get a gauge that measures -30 vacum to 30 boost for my stock turbo?

P.S.-what is a good recomended Boost Gauge? I was looking at purchasing this one...

...What do you guys think?

Thank-you for searching first...I'll help you with the rest of the problems you have....

1. Yes, you want to get a boost gauge that reads 30vac to 30psi..Especially if you will be modding the car later on. Until you get a MBC though, you'll probably only be running around 10-12psi most likely

2. Why get it professionally installed?? I'm only 14 and I could walk you through it  .. Trust me, you will learn a lot by doing it yourself. BTW: Getting it professionally installed would probably cost around the same price you paid to buy the gauge

3. I checked out the link and IMO I would steer away from that...Look into Autometer gauges instead...the gauge you're looking at is the same price as Autometer's...Only difference is that the one you are looking at is from an unknown ebay company :thumbdown ..Your car, your choices...I say Stay Away!

-Good luck

Thanks for the advise. I have never really been a fan of buying parts off of ebay, but this seemed like a good deal (after looking at AutoMeter gauges for $200). I like AutoMeter because i know that they are well known for quality. And I agree with you on on the self install, I just wasn't sure if there was somthing i could mess up by installing it myself.

Should I get a mechanical or Electric Boost Gauge?

Mechanical is fine! I am very suprised that you were looking at Autometer's for $200...There are a few electrical autometer's that sell that high but the majority of them are affordable...Most of their boost gauges should be around $55.

yea, be prepaird to spend a lot of time working on it depending on where you are mounting it. smart me, i mounted it as far away from my hole through my firewall as possible. took me 7 hours to get the job done. its an ultralie autometer. picked it up off ebay for 50 shipped and it works great. definatly no need to spend much more than that for a plain old boost gauge, and better to stay away from the cheapo's they dont work for long unless your lucky.

Tahnks for all of your help guys! I have decided on an AutoMeter Ultra-Lite boost gauge. But I was just wondering...

Does the boost gauge come with all of the necessary installation parts? If not, what will I need to buy (other than a gauge pod)?

Also, Is this gauge well illuminated at night? I like to do a lot of Night driving.

When I put in my Autometer Phantom, I had to buy the "t" fitting to tap into the boost line, and I'd recomment some teflon tape to seal up the threading, and some extra wire, of course. Other than that, it *should* come with everything you need. I never had a problem seeing mine at night either, lights up nicely. :thumb:

Well for one..the gauge is white!!! White is always easier to see at night. Two...You have a light in the gauge that turns on...You should be fine.. have fun with your new gauge. Now i just need to get myself one!!
