I am going to run a 2.4l turbo setup on my 420a soon and it was suggested to me that I use the Megasquirt MS3 EMS. Is this really necessary or could I just be safe with an SAFC II (I've heard I can use this)?

Some details on the build: '99 Stratus bottom end, SRT4 internals, super 16g turbo with stock wastegate, and a Treadstone exhaust manifold. (There are other parts to go with, I know, these are just the general)

Any help is greatly appreciated

you would be much safer with the mega squirt. The SAFC just fools the computer into dumping more fuel and its really not the right way to do things!

Ok. I've been reading up on the megasquirt system and it confuses me a bit. Can anyone give me a "megasquirt for dummies" explanation?

Its pretty much like an AEM standalone. Your possibilities with it are really endless. You will have to rewire the harness most likely. It will give you the ability to tune everything you will need too. I have a friend who has used it a few times and swears by it.

You can use ## stock injectors. Unless you plan on doin more mods. The MS is pretty easy to setup. diyautotune.com has a wright up on how to do it. They also have a PNP(plug and play) for the dsm's also. Its a bit more. But the MS3 is way over kill for a dsm anyway. stick with the ms2 or the PNP. I am building up my 83 Rx7 to run on a MS2

To my knowledge the 420a pnp was never released. It was tested, but no actual product ever hit the market. As other's have mentioned SAFC's are really not the best way to go about things. Can it work, yes, but for the price you pay you might as well go ahead and get a megasquirt unit, the price difference isn't much. Megasquirt can also be used as a piggyback with the stock ecu, so that is another thing to consider. Go do some reading in the 420a engine management section, all of the information you need on MSnS will be there.

You will want to run larger than stock injectors. As big as you can afford, at least in the 700's, add 30% if you want to be running ethanol.

I would start messing with the megasquirt on your 2.0. It is a big task, but it can be done. Once the 2.4 is in there it will be easy for you to change the fueling and not blow it up.

I would start it on the 2.0, but I'm pretty much gonna be putting in everything at once. I'm planning on getting a professional tune though.

personally if i were you i would follow doing the MS first before you install every thing new. this gives you a reduction in new parts introduced that could cause problems during the MS install. ( ive done three of these installs this far and lemme tell you having a KNOWN constant ( like a running engine before MS ) is a Great thing to have. Going from a non running car to something totally new is not only painful and irritating... wait no... thats all it is.

easiest way to install a MS is to reduce the number of unknowns as you do it. also you have little to no electrical experience, the MS may not be a good direction to go if you don't want to read for months to get things done.

So then do you think I should use an SAFC II?
