2G Questions about potential new car.

Hey guys, I am looking to purchase my first DSM. I have been looking for a Mitsubishi Eclipse preferably 2g. I found one on Craigslist and I was wondering if I could get the opinion of someone more knowledgeable about the add I'm looking at. The main questions I have are is this car even worth my time to look at and if it is what do you think a fair price for it is. Basically I want a daily driver, but I still want something that is going to be fun to drive. Any recommendations or help I can get will be greatly appreciated. Also sorry if I put this in the wrong section, I am still relativley new. Thank you in advanced to everyone who helps me out with this matter, I can't wait to get my own DSM.

Check for rust on front towers, and front/bottom of rear wheel wells.

I'm not thrilled with anything that says motor swap. I'll be blunt replacing a blown motor does not add value to the vehicle, and a 6 bolt motor does not add value to a 2g dsm.

If you have to ask what it's worth then you're already in over your head, a dsm is only worth the time you intend to use working on it

Personally, I think $6,000 is a bit much, especially without knowing the integrity of the work. If you do end up taking a look at it, follow pksystems' advice and check for rust on the front strut towers.

Thanks all for the help, I ended up not even bothering to take a look at it, I doubted the guy would have gone any lower as he originally wanted around $8000 for it, so the search continues. Are there any good threads or guides for new people looking to get their first dsm as far as what to look for as far as potential issues to keep an eye out for. I know all the general stuff as far as what to look for on a new car, but more anything specific to the 2g DSM. I already know about the crankwalk, but anything else aside from that. Once again thanks for all the help, can't wait until I can get a DSM of my own and join this awesome community.

I would pay $6-8k for a bone stock dsm with full service records in excellent condition regardless of miles.

There is not alot to look for, these cars are usually either beat to hell, or in ok condition with alot of modifications.

So things to look for, a stock car

Yes a stock car would be great to find, but they are rare to come by... A lot of guys part them out and return them to "stock" something else to look out for! Another option which I think would be suitable for you is something with minor bolt-ons. It all depends on the car, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a clean 2g with a 6 bolt swap if it was done right! The problem with being new to Dsm's is it will be harder for you to catch little things. Just go into it with advice above in rust spots, also near hatch and in spare tire well in trunk. You can usually tell right away if a car was maintained so use your best judgement. Dont forget the normal stuff like, how many owners, accidents, tire tread etc..

A stock car would be great but a car with some bolt ons wouldn't be bad either as long as it is done properly i.e. 16g w/enough fuel (injectors, pump, tune)
