At least those of you who haven't done a 97-99 front end conversion that have FMIC's.

What kind of intercooler do you have? I'm leaning heavilly towards doing a front end conversion based upon the fact that 1.) I think they look better and 2.) that it's easier to have a larger intercooler in there.

To those of you who didn't do the conversion, what size/kind of intercooler do you have? Pictures would be wonderful.

I originally thought about keeping my current front end, and getting a FMIC that was like this one...

but kinda got negaive feedback on that one. I was they wouldn't be sufficent enough to make around 350-400WHP. Another negative aspect is that I'd have to get rid of my fog lights too, which I would do, but would rather not have to do.

I did conversion.... TWICE.. on both of my 95 GSXs.

Only one of them saw an FMIC though. I had the greddy big 24row first, but that thing sucked, so now i run the popular SSAC/XS power fmic 2g kit. Only $295 shipped with short route piping for upper and lower.

Any fmic you get you will need to trim the bumper. And depending on which one or how you route your pipes, will outcome if you can have foglights or not.

And those links you showed, you should really look into the kit I mentioned, its only $295 shipped, and the core is bigger than those you linked, and it comes iwth the shortest possible piping.

Greetings!

My 95 saw the 2Gb conversion as soon as I could. Remember you will have to switch your headlamps, but it'll be worth it.

I'm currently running the Slow Boy Racing 24x12x3.5" Kit. Its an INCREDIBLE fit, HUGE CORE and will bring any about of boost down to ambient temperatures with ease. It flows 1000cfm bar and plate core. Great kit, requires cutting of the radiator support for it's short route SS 2.5" piping. You'll lose your fog lamps, but I'm sure you could retro fit some in the bumper another way... even if you don't, the gains will be worth it.

It's a little on the pricy side, but the fit and quality are more than worth it. Check it out @:

whew... the price went up. I'd call 'em and see what they could do for you. I got mine about 2 years ago, maybe a little less... I'm affraid to disclose my price in a post. PM me if you want.

Hope this helped.

I have a 96 w/ a 2Ga bumper, though I think a 2gB bumper is alot easier to shop for intercoolers for since it seems to hug the front of the car differently, I have one of those 80$ SSAC/XS Power ones. Didn't have to do any trimming of the bumper, though I had to remove the PS coolant lines, also I had to force the bumper on, but its on and holding.

Damn, none of you guys stuck with the 2Ga front end other than eboy0?? :(

Now, with a core that stands like 8-12" high, wouldn't it be going to waste with the 2Ga front end, since a large portion would be covered up by the bumper?

I know you might convert (or at least thats how it sounds), but this is why I always thought of going with a 5-7" high FMIC.

--edit--

yours looks beautiful btw. do you have a larger picture?

Well I have a 98 so I didn't have to do the conversion, but I can tell you I had to do quite a bit of bumper cutting in order to get it to fit up well. My advice to you is just take your time and grind the bumper down little by little until you are satisfied. You may also want to relocate you power steering fluid cooling line behind the metal bracket that sits in front of the radiator. I used to have a lot of pictures but I can't seem to find them sorry.

There is quite a bit behind the bumper cover, bit I have seen no ill effects from this. I made my own piping and the turbo side is warm after a hot run but the other side is cold, so it does its job just fine. It took some trimming but I like how it looks. I just looped my ps lines because I dont think that the factory ps cooler does alot anyway, I hve seen no ill affects from this. I plan on going to the 2gb to uncover it somemore. Pm me and I can send you some bigger pics. (thx for the compliment though)

Ok, this question slightly goes along with this thread, so I'll ask it here rather than make another thread just for it.

I searched the site, but found nothing on it. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a 97-98 model talon front bumper? I've had virtually no luck what so ever. Hell, even ebay doesn't have any. I've thought about doing a conversion of my GST for a while, as I loved the Talon's styling. I can find the back bumper and tail lights, but the front bumper has been a real PITA.

I am currently using a Greddy with hard pipe kit and everything fits great I however have to trim the bumper a little but well worth the little extra effort

I kept my 2ga front end, though I'm stuck on whether to convert to 2gb or not. I had to cut the grill strakes for IC itself to fit, and I had to butcher the sides of the "smile" to pass the pipes through.

For now, I might keep the 2ga bumper, but if I replace my current FMIC with a new setup (short route/MAFt/etc) then I'll probably convert. I don't know if I'll do the rear bumper along with it. Prabably keep the 2ga rear. I've already got 2gb headlights so it wouldn't really be that much of a problem to do the front.

I actually was able to leave my power steering lines alone. I had to trim my bumper ALOT and also re-angle my automatic transmission cooler. Oh and the FMIC is the SS Autochrome kit.

I purchased a nice kit of ebay for $190, front mount, thats running good. I'm really glad to have the side mount out of there. When I bought the kit I had to buy the pipe flange for the b/o valve also. I'm running an HKS on it. So far so good.

I just noticed that there are 8 of us from the midwest with 95-96 models. :p

I just like the 2Gb style MUCH better than the 95/96. I plan on doing a full 2Gb conversion before I get the car painted... which will probably be next winter.

Us midwest kids must like the 95-96... I saw a bone stock 95 GSX almost 4 years ago now, and I couldn't pass it up. I got it for only $5000... considering they were going for close to 7500... :D

Hehe... just realized you said "HAVEN'T"... my bad! I've got the old bumper still, I don't think I'll be able to sell it, so I can hack it up and put it on if you want me to.

Moline... that's not too far from Peoria right?

We both have 95 GSTs too, except your crank has one more bolt than mine :)

Yup, you're like maybe 2hrs away if that.

TSG, I'm just trying to see how many stuck with the stock bumper, and what it looked like with their FMIC's on them. Like I said, I'd really love to switch to a 97-98 talon bumper as I really love the styling of those year talons, but I may myself switch to a 2Gb eclipse bumper eventually.
