Question about rotors.

I need to replace my rotors pretty baddly and was wondering if it is worth the money to buy a more reputable brand (Brembo, Power stop ect) or if NAPA rotors are the same thing. I'm just getting normal replacement rotors or possibly cross drilled ( I heard that it really doesn't help though). The reason I ask, is that I've noticed that a most "good" rotors go for ~120 a pair while the NAPA ones are around ~20 each and it would be dumb to spend the extra money for nothing. Thanks.

I got the plain Brembo replacements from The Tire Rack. The only thing that would stop me from recommending them is that they lack the two holes that you can screw a bolt into to walk the rotor off if they become seized to the hub. So, it may be a problem when it comes time to take them off again.:thumbdown

I have Brembo cross drilled and slotted rotors and they are defiantly better than my stock rotors. The stopping power is a ton better and they don't seem to warp easily like the stock rotors. Whether you see a large difference with cross drilling depends on what you want to use them for. If you are not doing autocross or anything that requires heavy breaking I do not feel they are worth the extra money. However I do feel the upgrade to Brembo rotors over NAPA replacements will be worth the extra money.

I was in the same boat a month or two ago, I end up replacing them with "napa" rotors, so far working good, no warping or nothing... so I say stick with stock replacements...

or if you decide going for upgraded rotors, choose slotted rather than cross drilled... better durability, less crack chances... better pad life too... less brake dust.

Thanks for the help guys. I've always read that the pads help breaking more then the rotor is this true?

or you can just put anti-seize on it and the problem will be fixed

I did, but I like the fact that there will be a way to get them off in case the anti-seize doesn't do it's job.

Both the pads and rotor contribute to braking efficiency. The size of the rotor to absorb heat, and the type and friction material of the pad.

cross drilled rotors only have higher cracking probabilty if the holes are drilled after molding. If made during molding they are fine. Personally, i think stock rotors with better pads is the poor mans brake upgrade.

Cracked rotors due to cross-drilling is in the same category as crankwalk. Overhyped. I have never seen cracked drilled rotors at any autoX event, or at the strip. If you're really paranoid, get them cryogenically frozen.

I've had my Brembo dimpled/slotted brakes for over 8k miles. No signs of any wear. Axxis brake pads along with the brembo's. These things saved my life
