question about rm and stock sway bars.

So right now I have the stock 2g front sway bar and the stock gsx rear sway bar on my rs. My friend is selling his rm racing front and rear sway bars. Now I know the front rm bar will be an upgrade but will the rear be also. right now I have the stock gsx rear sway bar which is 18mm thick. He is selling the Rm front wheel drive rear sway bar which is 17.5 mm thick. So if I bought the rear rm bar off him would I be downgrading or will the rm still be stiffer than the slightly thicker gsx bar.? If so will it be noticably stiffer or not even worth it?thx.

It probably won't be much different, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in. It would've been much better if he had the AWD one to sell you ( 20.6mm thick).
 
the rm rear bar is a lot heavier than the the gsx bar. so will be an upgrade.

Do some searches I know that the differences are listed here somewhere, I did all of that research before I installed my rm bars.
 
Sway bars will connect the opposite ends (the wheels) better and increase the suspension roll stiffness.

In reality it won't make much of a difference in upgrading the sway bars unless you do autocross or drive wild out in the streets taking hurts very fast with AWD cars and with FWD cars it prevent swaying which will not lead to sliding out on turns.

To the OP; thicker sway bars if the stock sway bars are actual thicker is not all that matters. It all depends on the research and design on what actually does better. Many people say that RM, a thinner set of sway bars, are better than Suspension Techniques sway bars.
 
I'm not sure some of you are understanding. I have an eclipse rs. It did not come with a rear sway bar at all. I bought gsx control arms and the gsx rear sway bar and installed them. So right now I have an oem front sway bar and oem gsx rear sway bar which is 18mm thick.

I am wondering if the rear RM bar the guy is selling (THAT IS FOR A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR SO IT IS 17.5mm THICK) will improve my handeling over the oem gsx bar that is 18mm thick.

Thanks for posting that write up. It was a big help. What I know is that I just want more oversteer being frontwheel drive I get little to none. So I guess what i'm asking is does anybody know if the thinner RM fwd rear bar is actually stiffer than the slightly thicker oem gsx one? thanks.
 
Ideally the thicker the sway bar the stiffer it is which leads to more oversteering. In the case of the RM sway being thinner I don't know whether it's stiffer or not but I'd have to assume it would be stiffer because people only upgrade to those when they do auto crossing or that type of driving.
 
Your in a grey area where you are going to have to play around and see which one nets the best result. "Maybe" some one will be able to tell you what you want to know but it's doubtful. I think it would be best to start calling vendors and see what they know. You may still come up with a bunch of shrugs and maybe's.
