if i am in neutral and i rip the ebrake into a parking spot or something does that put a lot of wear on my transfer case? i was just wondering because i know it is bad if you pull the ebrake and mash the gas, or pull the ebrake while you are in gear, but i dont know if it is bad if you arent in gear or applying any gas. thanks.

duh, im stupid. theoretically then, if i pulled the ebrake and stomped the brakes at the same time that would lock both the front and rear wheels and not do anything, right?

except probly go sideways.

Just use the brakes, what wrong with that?

This is completely dependent on the center differencital in the car. With the standard one the LSD will allow some slip to happen for short periods of time.

Weld the center diff and viscus coupling and you no longer have a center diff and you will transfer all the braking force of the front wheels through the transfer cast and tranny.

what i basically want to know how to do is how to whip a 180 in a parking lot without destroying my transfer case, if that is possible.

I probably shouldn't be posting this, but it pisses me off to see people ruin suspension and the car by needlessly roasting tires, and doing donuts. :thumbdown :barf:

Use the steering wheel to pull a 180.

Go about 40mph...

lock everything up...(turning wheel is key)

and you should at least make a 360 if not more. Wayyy better than a 180 is ya ask me :thumb:

AWD is meant to stick to the road, not drift all over. Get a corolla if u want to drift.

The DSM AWD scheme doesn't really allow for it. However, being driven from the wrong end with that amount of force would be more likely to blow a vc than lock up the fronts.

Get a locked center diff. Turn the wheel all the way to the lock and drop the clutch. If you are making enough power you can do a 4 wheel burnout in circles!!!!

heh, i dont have to do this sort of stuff, i was just wondering if it is possible without thrashing my car. btw, if i had a locked center dif, wouldnt that loose my traction control?

oh, and what do you mean by lock everything up?

do not pull the e-brake even in neutral. its is not hard on the trans case or center diff so much as the viscous coupling... if you need more information i can tell you exactly what happens and why it is bad.

if you insist on doing this get a good share of mods(mine work just fine for me) and launch at about 5k rpm with the wheel cranked hold it in place for a second and slowey let go of the wheel and it will straiten the front wheels back out sending you sliding and being very mean to your car.

ps make sure you do this in a safe closed invirnoment with a professional stunt driver LOL

If you wondering how the WRC awd rally cars do it when they race, they have electronically controlled center diffs that will disengage when you pull the ebrake up.
