So when I got my 90 GSX I was told it had a 90 EPROM and a while ago I finally decided to rip it out and on the actual ECU itself it says 91-94... the car ran perfectly fine for a while and I never had problems with it... it's also NOT an EPROM... basically i'm planning on getting an EPROM however how do I know if this is really a 91-94 ECU or not... is there something inside I can check to make sure it's not just written on there incorrectly? (it's written in sharpie)

By that guide and the cover on the ECU I have a Federal AT ECU...MD165531... my GSX is a 90 but is not auto... i'm gonna see if my buddy can run a carfax for me but is it more than likely that the cover is just not right (which is why I wanted to see if anyone knew a way to check on the inside of the ECU) or could it possibly have to do with what engine may be in there? It's DEFINITELY a 6 bolt... is it possible for an auto ECU to work in a non Auto car anyway?

Cool, here's pics... if you need something more specific let me know.

how do you know??

See the number on the edge connector? It's the last four digits of the E2T number.
The other digit is usually a 3 on the early ECUs and a 6 on the later ones.
Searching for E2T34376 told me it was for a Mirage and then I went into CAPS and looked up the ECU to verify the engine and part number matched what I found on Google. I could tell it was a 90 or earlier ECU by the three vertical boards in the center.

It helps that I see a lot of ECUs so I know how all this fits together.

So, in my case i'm assuming this is not a good thing to have... i'd still really like to go for an EPROM but i'd need to get rid of this to get some money for one since i've spent my budget on making sure everything in the engine bay is right... took apart the thermostat housing to polish it and make it look nice cause I was bored and discovered there wasn't even a thermostat in there! Fortunately I ordered one anyway a few weeks ago when I ordered random sensors and all new gaskets.

Is this ECU I have compatible in any way with my car... i'm just confused what I should do because it ran perfectly fine with the ECU in... i'm afraid if I get a 90 GSX ECU that it's supposed to have maybe something was done to make the other ecu work and the correct one won't...?

Yeah, I should have everything back together tomorrow... my friend is gonna come over with his tap and die set to tap my hole (it's been holding me back for like 3 weeks) I don't know if i'm gonna start it or not but I mean the car ran perfectly fine until my HG blew so I don't really know... I had come to the conclusion a bunch of things just failed and caused the HG to go but maybe the ECU could have helped...

I didn't know they even made a turbo 1.8 mirage???

So I went out and got a 90 GSX 5 speed ECU and it does not work with the car... ECU is perfectly fine...

I plugged the 89 1.6l mirage turbo ecu back in and it started up fine and now it's idling fine but running insane rich...

Doesn't smoke at all but i'm getting ALOT of unburnt fuel being spit out of the exhaust....

Anyone have a clue as to why this ECU would even work on this car... ?
