OK i was looking through the gallery and checkin out peoples cars, and i must say some of u guys have sweet rides, nice work. But i came accross one thats an RS show car (keep in mind show car so that could answer the question right there...) And its nice looking ill give it that, but what struck me ass odd was that out the back was quad exhaust or atleast 4 tips, Im pretty sure it was just dual exhaust with dual tips for each pipe.... but anyways LOL i heard from someone that putting a dual exhaust setup or anything along that line on a car like an RS wouldnt serve any purpose, all it would do is just slow it down. I know the less back pressure u have the better, but is there such thing like too much is bad or somtin. Or is duing a dual exhaust better, or is it just for show like i think. im so confusseled too many voices..... any ideas?

UTI.......

yes too much backpressure is a bad thing becasue u will lose low end torque. The guy has a show car, if u have dual exhaust (from my research) on a 4 cylidner non-turbo car all you will do is make yourself slower. Not enough power to do it, if you want to go ahead LOL, but IMHO i wouldnt

It's pointless. All it will do is ADD weight to the car. You only need ONE pipe going back.

It was probably single exhaust going to the rear axle the splitting into duals. No performance gain, just added weight and it probably sounds like ass. I would say its for show, not go.

Dual exhaust would serve no purpose, given the fact that our engines have a single bank of cylinders.

Thank you, see i knew i wasn't crazy and hearing things (least not more then normal) I mean personaly i think the quad exhaust look was sweet on the car, but id never do it for the exact reasons everyone said, i mean i have an RS i love it, its quick but not fast, i dont need to make it slower.

I think you're talking about my car. The car actually felt better with the dual setup. I have mandrel bends now for 1 thing. There is a Y-pipe at the driver side axle, then the pipe goes straight across. To help with the "too much flow to be practical" issue, I have flowmaster single chamber mufflers. My theory is that this won't reduce the flow too much, but won't allow excess flow. I didn't notice any fall off of take off. The car pulled a lot better, but who knows? I previously had a magnaflow muffler on there and crush bends were left on.
Sure, the duals might not help me out tremendously, but it gets a lot of attention and compliments my bomex rear. That was my main goal. The car isn't fast anyway, so who cares? I have 1 range hotter plugs, accel wires, AEM CAI, DC Sports 4-2-1 Header, high flow cat, and the mandrel bent piping w/ duals. The car feels quite a bit better than stock. The duals did not hurt the performance of the car at all that I can tell. As I said, it feels a lot better. I know I'll probably catch hell for saying that, but whatever. I know what my results are.

To sum it up, straight through piping will probably flow too much and cause the low end to suffer. The high end will be somewhat better. My car felt all out better somehow. Maybe it's just luck. I do know the exhaust shop I went to is highly respected in this area by a lot of hot rod builders and racers as well.

If u have any questions about the setup, PM me or reply here. I'll try to answer.

By the way, it sounded different than any 4 cylinder. I got a lot of compliments on it. That was, until the high flow cat went on. The header gets me back to getting compliments. It won't be nasty, it's just pretty loud.

wow its weird, most of the things on your car im not a fan of, the big wing, the black rims i definatly have never liked, same with the crazy flames, but all of it together your car looks badass imo. i like that alot :thumb: and you dont have altezzas, which i dont like those either, those lights look 10x better than altezzas. nice job on the show. now, about that go....

i have a nt with dual exhaust but i just split it after the cat, but its all just for the looks/sound, no real purpose in the 2nd muffler cuz the cat has all the pressure. I got complemented on it today though, i thought that was cool cuz i just finished the month long project yesterday

It's fast enough for a car that has a main purpose of sitting still while being judged. I have the basic performance mods, so I'm happy. Maybe some pulleys will get put on later, and I'm hoping to spray at some point. I don't care to spend a lot on performance. Maybe if I get to a point where the car gets major recognition or something. I just don't care to buy a ton of performance parts yet.

Hey i like your car, as i said in my first post, i think it looks nice and i deff like the dual setup, my only question was about general performance, and im glad to see you found my post and could personaly answer that question for me :thumb: i would however love to hear how it sounds, its rare that i get to hear a car that sounds nice, everyone around me has the rice canister exhaust  painful.... I personaly am doin headers, custom hand built strait pipe, then remus exhaust. my friend did that to a non dsm, and its by far one of the best sounding cars in the area. In a month or 2 ill prob be starting my exhaust cant wait.

I I just wanted to add to what I said. First off, you car looks great. The reason I said it propably sounds like @ss is because all Ive heard around here with duals are usually dual rice cans. I have also heard a few that sound good, but only afew.
