pwer steering went out...

I was driving my car in snow accidently did a 180 on a slick road, stoped the car. All of a sudden i heard this shattering noise, almost like something dropped from beneath the car. Ever since then it is really really hard to turn the steering wheel, especially when the car is not moving. I checked the power steering reservoir and there is plenty of fluid in there.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you checked the belt that powers the power steering cuz mine went out today in the rain. But its just a combonation of car being old and rain so belt blew. so all i need to do is replace it and tension it. i heard the same thing a clunk but that was my belt falling off cuz it snaped and flew away on the freeway .

yea I'm guessing the belt snapped ... mine has done that before too.

How easy is it to replace the belt yourself? and where is it located?

the belt of located on the driver side of the engine and its attached to the power steering pump (the pully at the very top) pretty simple to replace and cost about 12 bucks
