Ive noticed that my sidemount gets heatsoaked . So I was thinking if anybody had tried put a fan on the backside on the intercooler to draw more air in. sort of like a radiator fan But is that intercooler water sprayer better?

you know wut that sounds like a good idea. my friend that has a mr2T has a fan that sucks air into his intercooler.

I did this when I got an appropriately sized fan for free, it works ok for autocross if you're too lazy to bring a watersprayer, but you'd need a big, high power fan if your aim is to keep it from heatsoaking.

The purpose of an intercooler is to cool the air. The purpose of the radiator is to cool the coolant. It is a lot easier to cool water by blowing air through the radiator fins than it is to cool compressed air by sucking air through the intercooler fins. I say it will be useless. Get a bigger side mount, a FMIC or turn the boost down until you can afford supporting mods. There is no point in getting a intercooler water sprayer on the stock side mount. If you don't want a FMIC look at dejonpowerhouse.com's side mount.

I agree with the above comment ^^^
Dejon makes an awesome SMIC, which I plan on using in the very near future. Water spray on a side mount (especially the stock one) would be a waste of money...There is just not enough surface area to make it work as well as you'd want it to. I've heard of people using water spray on a large SMIC (like a Supra or the upgraded Dejon) but I wouldn't expect much out of that setup, either, honestly.

If you don't have the cash to spend on a Dejon or Supra SMIC at the moment, Dejon offers a service for stock SMICs that might work for you for now.
From their website:
We take your stock side mount and (1) cut the stock pipes (2) clean with Kerosene and a chemical aluminum cleaner (3) enlarge the in/out holes and (4) TIG weld on new beaded tubes. You receive a clean & shiny side mount. The Inlet pipe is straight so that it will fit 20g & large turbos. Turn around is 2-3days from receipt of your sidemount.

Yeah, I guess I didn't make my post discouraging enough. After a 1-2 minute autocross, it takes almost 2 minutes to pull most of the heat out of the stock sidemount even with a pretty good fan on it. Its totally overwhelmed while you're actually driving. At the last track day I went to, the stock sidemount was heatsoaked by the second straightaway, even with the fan.

A lot of the ClubRally DSM's use a watersprayer on the stock sidemount, and it works well enough, but they're forced to use the stock sidemount unless they bump into Open class. Last year I crewed for a guy with a rally car built by RRE, it had a 5 gallon water tank for spraying the intercooler/radiator. Its more of a crutch than anything else.

Nothing beats a nice frontmount IMO.

Ive got 2 fans on my FMIC. My intercooler is so tall that it close to half of it sticks into ther bumper, and i didnt want to cut a big notch. I had 2 fans from a mustang tt project(the car got stolen before it was finished). I put the fans up in the bumper mounted to the intercooler to help air flow behind the bumper. Not sure if it helps alot but I gaurentee it doesnt hurt.
