Edmonton,
Well, i just got pulled over for "LOUD EXHUAST" ha

61(1) A motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine
must have an exhaust muffler that is cooling and expelling the
exhaust gases from the engine without excessive noise and without
producing flames or sparks.

ITs 2.5 Inch Turbo Back piping.. with a Apexi N1 Muff.. Its very loud.. anyone know what i can add to my exhuast setup to make it quieter? Or do i need to get a whole new muffler?

Thanks guys!

-Trev

Does the Apexi N1 not come with a silencer? Put that one, my buddie had one on his 2g n/t in edmonton too, and he's never been pulled over for it, he leaves the silencer in.

yea i just bought my car yesterday.. it does.. but the guy didnt give it to me:( major HP loss too.. :(

get my car yesterday .. drive it today.. pull out my block.. and get pulled over.. the cop said they are cracking down on guys with exhuast just to let you know..

If your gonna use a silencer you might as well just put the stock exhaust back on the car esspecially if its gonna get you into trouble. Put the stock exhaust on the car and get a electronic cut out or something like that is what i would say, that would cure the need for alittle performance when you want and keep it so cops dont pull you over, now with inspections though that might cause some trouble 2, dunno.....sure am happy i dont have to worry about that kinda stuff around here.

i think a silencer is out of the question right now.. u think a resonator will make it quiet?

a resonator will help smooth the tone, and quiet the sound levels. as long as you aren't doing WOT pulls near a cop you'll be fine.
just get a long 2.5" resonator get one that has about a 20 to 24 inch canister on it. 6 inch in diameter. a muffler shop may have one, or you could pick one up on ebay, or magnaflow.com. shouldn't cost much if you go ebay.

just put a resonator in. my exhaust has one built in and i love it... for two reasons.

1. it mellows out the tone and it keeps it from getting that high pitched noise you hear a lot of exhaust making.
2. if you get a cop who checks to see if you have a cat or the inspection people, and they are dumb enough, you can pass it off as a cat. i was pulled over for something else and the cop starts looking at my stuff and hes like "and you dont have a catalyst, that is a big ticket, you know that right?" and i was like "officer, look. that right there is a perfectly legal high flow cat that is built into the exhust. i couldnt take it out if i wanted to. it just passed emissions to, so it seems to be in good working order." the cop said "oh, i didnt realize thats what that was. ok." and i got my ticket for no front plate and that was it.

im going to put a res on it tomorrow sometime.. i think its my best bet.. we got no emmision laws here.. :p cops dont check for that stuff.. amen :D

The resonator is the best bet, but in the meantime just get a silencer. You aren't going to notice too much of a drop on an N/T car. Apexi came out with a new active silencer that might be even better. I think it is the current Import Tuner where the test the two silencers in a 500hp Skyline. Interesting read.

Ya I have the Apexi N1 catback on my car which has a resonator on it & it is very quiet. Ive got pulled over for no reason & got a ticket for it for no reason (cops are really bad around here, if your in an import you'll get pulled over & get atleast 1 ticket) but I got it dB tested so I could fight the ticket. It made 83 dB, 20" from the muffler outlet @ 4000 rpms which is well under the limit. Of course I got off no questions.

Sounds like Canada is a bit more fair about that. There is no decibel limit here. Around here, if you modify your exhaust at all, and/or if it is louder than stock, it's illegal. I wanted to ask if I'd still get a ticket if I threw on another muffler (since it'd be modified and all).

Allegedly, the officer heard me "50 yards away with his windows up". Wow, pretty impressive with the heavy traffic and the fact I never went above 4K RPM. :notgood:
Not to mention he didn't even pull me over until he was behind me (I passed him) and he saw my broken exhaust hinge.

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"Because it's Friday night, and you're a big asshole?" :p

No db?LOL must be nice.. id say it really depends on the cop to be honest.. some dont care.. some are out to make the goverment money..
heres our "terms" and rules .. laws er whatever...

61(1) A motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine
must have an exhaust muffler that is cooling and expelling the
exhaust gases from the engine without excessive noise and without
producing flames or sparks.
(2) A person shall not drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled
by an internal combustion engine if the exhaust outlet of the
muffler has been widened.
(3) A person shall not drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled
by an internal combustion engine if a device is attached to the
exhaust system or the muffler that increases the noise made by the
expulsion of gases from the engine or allows a flame to be ignited
from the exhaust system.

Well, I big fat turbo sure would quiet down that exhaust note. :sneaky: :p
My old N/T was always extremely loud. I never could quiet it down w/o congesting it up. Those muffler silencers never did anything for me....

I would get a resonator, although it will last for only a year or two. Update your profile :shhh: . You do have a turbo DSM now, right?

resonators expire?

:tease:

My stock exhaust except 2 1.2" dp is on the car, But IS NOT connected. It is open o2 housing. It produces alot of excessive noise, Even at idle only, And most likly flames when i shift being it back fires like 2 shotguns together once and awhile..

I'd hate to live where you live i'd be in jail by now LOL! A cop was next to me the other day but i don't think he could figure out what car was so loud being my car has a stock muffer too. ROFL ROFL

Now I can hear my turbo spinning(sounds like its spooling) in just neutral at idle :rocks: ROFL

No sir, but the packing material will eventually "blow out", thus not serving much of a purpose anymore.

hmm.... well a resonator has been on this car for like 3 years and it has yet to blow a chunk out as far as i know. can someone post a picture of a dead resonator?

edit...
and it doesnt sound any different than when it was installed...
