PTE GT3561 - Installed and Dyno'd

The turbo he has consists of a GT center section, a GT-35 turbine wheel, a 61mm compressor wheel (which is the same one used in the SCM61, which is a 56 trim). Those parts can be matched up with the PTE Mitsu housing. He didn't state whether he had an E or S cover on it (I didn't look too closely at the pics I guess to find out for myself). All Garrett turbos that are ball bearing have an R on the end to designate it as a roller. - Brian

I thought the PTE turbo's were made to fit the stock mitsubishi manifold.


A full tdo6h 20g can put down 400+whp. 360 with race gas is nothing overly impressive for a 20g.

Just because it is a PTE doesnt mean it is a Mitsu Hybrid. PTE makes turbo's for vehicals other than DSM's. This turbo is a full garret unit, witgh a garret turbine housing. They are cheaper than Hybrids, you can get full garrets with a rediculous amout of wheel, trim, and AR choices for as little as 550$ shipped.
 
To answer a few questions.

My goal was to have a non-ball bearing version of the FP3565.

So I went to Shane up at Elite Autosports, Told him what I was looking for and he did the rest.

From what I know of this turbo it started as a standard SCM61.

Some things Changed
- the "T04E" Compressor Cover was changed to a "T04S" compressor cover
- Standard Mitsu housing was changed to a T3 Exhaust Housing (5 bolt)
- I think the exhaust wheel was swapped as well but not positive.

This turbo is rated at 65lbs/min.

The dyno was on a 2wheel DynoJet Dyno - at Elite Autosport of MN (www.elite-autosport.com) so my car was converted to FWD for Dynoing.


403whp is perfectly fine for a stock 7 bolt Motor.... 456.7whp is getting into untested territory. there are only a few that have bothered to run this high of HP on a stock 7 bolt (at least from what I've found), some are making upwards of 500whp. But most people will say don't push the block more then 450whp if you want reliablilty. It's the Rod bolts that come into question more so then the Rods themselves.


I think Eclipsed20G is making the most HP on a stock 7 bolt with 129mph traps.

As for my HRC S20G numbers 363whp is low I could have made much much more but I never ran my car on Race gas on the streets so I only tuned my set up for the Streets. 322whp was the most we could get on pump gas however. My Set up with the S20G was maxed out....

The highest anyone in my area's been able to make is 422whp C16 and 30psi. (buschar 20G) - Andy Nash who shortly broke the recorded for fastest 20G powered DSM with an 11.2@122mph. Not sure if that record still stands but at the time he was the fastest. According to DSMTIMES (not that dsmtimes is the most accurate listing I'm sure but anyways...)

The Turbine wheel in the standard version of the GT40 is a T350 56trim. Not as efficient? OK, yeah, its probobly more efficient. Its also a better flowing wheel. Look at it compared to the GT30 84trim... I bet you wont be able to tell the diff. ;)
 
See now you lost me. This is why I just had Shane put my turbo together.


I never really paid attention to trims, wheel sizes,etc. - till this turbo swap. So I'm just learning. Hense why I didn't disclose what's inside my turbo. (didn't want to get something wrong)

Also Cher's right - about the non-nitrious thing. And like I said this was via DSMtimes so who knows how accurate that is?

I've personally seen all the times deleted a few times since 1999 when I got into DSM's.
 
OK, I see. It looks like you have a non ball bearing GT35R. Same GT40 56trim compressor wheel(hence the name 3561) with the bigger 84trim GT35 turbine wheel. At first I thaught you had a a -14 cartridge turbo(Like the FP3065 or SBRGT14). But now I see it's both non BB and it is using the bigger 84trim turbine. Nice!

Here are specs on the mentioned turbine wheels.

GT30 84trim 2.36" 2.16"

GT35 84trim 2.68" 2.45"

I don't see where you're coming up with the GT40 information as it does not use the 61 mm compressor wheel. The GT35R and the GT3561 use the same 61mm compressor wheel (56 trim). A GT35 non-ball bearing does not have an R on the end (the R designates the turbo as a ball bearing :thumb: ) Great turbo choice :D - Brian
 
The 61mm 56 trim compressor wheel is a GT40 series wheel. 2.41" inducer, 3.22" exducer.

Its the same compressor wheel in the GT35R, SBRGT14, PTE SC61, FP3065 & 3565, and any other turbo using a -14 cartridge. It is a GT40.
 
I gotcha, I found that same info today. I guess the GT40 model name for that wheel came from back when HKS was calling their GT35R turbo the GT3540. I agree, my bad :thumb:

Is brians combination king or is there a better turbine wheel to match up with this compressor. From looking at fp dyno's, gt35r's, sc61's, brian car has by far the most linear and broadest power band. I have been looking at gt3040's but i can't get over the performance right here with the gt3561. Is this turbo really just a non ball bearing gt35r? If so what are the exact trim options?


This turbo + ball bearing is exactly what I'm looking for.

Also would a 38mm tial be enough to control creep?

Ya, that really isnt anything impressive , an 11.2? A guy here in Indy went 11.3 on a big16g. So ya, you need to up the ante on your tuning.

Yea, but what mph was Josh's at, 115mph vs 122. Josh is a hell of a driver and ran some sick times on that big 16g, but he just isn't making the same power as this guy. Maybe this guy doesn't like to rebuild tranny's in his spare time or can't afford it so he drives it easier.

Bottom line - quit being a nutswinger and get your car running. OMG

Any why others can not see this is still beyond me.

I still dont know why people can not come to terms, that all these Hybrids and whatnot, have GT35 Comp sections, not GT40.

You can not purchase ANY GT40 turbo from Garrett with a 61mm inducer, plain and simple, but since some bonehead vendors place "GT40 compressor section" the description of their turbo's, everyone blindly believes it.

To all who question, I offer one challenge. Call Garrett Honeywell industries, and try order a true GT40 turbo with a 61mm compressor wheel. Let us know what they say.

In the end, it does not matter. Although it is a GT35 compressor, which there is NO room to argue, all the hybrids with 61m GT35 Compressor have been proven to be very solid choices.
