I bought the Prothane inserts for the front and rear motor mounts on my 1G AWD. I'm concerned about the front one.

I've attached a picture of the front insert, with the bolt that goes through it in the hole. That seems completely wrong to me, look how much slop is in there. The rear bolt fit very snug. This front one just seems like the hole is twice as large as it's supposed to be.

I have a larger bolt that I can use that fits very well, but it would require me to also enlarge the holes on the bracket that bolts to the block.

Anyhow, I have searched all the sites I know of, and have not heard one mention of this anywhere. I'm wondering if I somehow received the wrong metal bushing, or just what everyone else with these has done. Leaving it as is just seems like a bad idea to me with all that slop. Just want some other opinions before I start enlarging holes.

Thanks for anyones advice

That insert looks like it replaced the entire rubber piece...the front mount inserts are supposed to be just that, inserts that fit into either side of the stock mount keeping the factory rubber piece in tact. Let me know if you had to remove the entire rubber mount to install that.

They do now offer a solid front motor mount form prothane.
I have one in my car rite now and it works fine. Was that mount 1 piece or 2? Mine was a single piece with lips on the edges. The kit was updated a few years back. SBRJoe can you check one of your kits for him and let him know if it is solid or not?

All the ones we sell and Prothane lists the front mounts (1g and 2g) are 2 piece inserts that just go on either side of the actual rubber mount.

i bought prothanes for my 1g and didnt not have this problem, also the front mount was a solid insert like the rest, not the 2 piece they showed on the website. mine was done in july of this year

The solid ones came out a while back, I would have liked to have had one. To the poster, did you do the rear mount? If so, what did the sleeve look like. I've heard rumor's that the front and rear mount are the same size.

Thanks for all the replies.
I'll try to hit everyones questions here.

Yes mine is one solid piece and I had to remove all the stock rubber, and the pressed in ring for this. I then simply lubed the crap out of it with grease, and pressed the prothane piece into the mount. Was pretty easy.

The fronts from what I've gathered USED TO BE 2 little inserts that went around the OEM rubber. Not anymore. They are one solid piece that replaces it all.

I did do the rear mount also. I did it first though. It is installed, and fit just fine. It did not come as one piece, it came in two halves. But it also replaced the entire OEM rubber, it did not go around any OEM rubber. The bolt fit very nicely/snug into the bushing hole on that one. It was a little tricky to get lined up because of that. So I really do not want to removed it to see anything because I'd have to go through the hassle of getting it lined up perfect again so the bolt goes through. If I would have realized the issue with the front right away, then I would have left the rear one out for comparison sake, but oh well.

I've contacted both the shop I bought it from, as well as Prothane them self. We'll see what I hear back.

Someone gave me another idea that I thought was interesting and clever. They said to use a piece of Fuel line or thick hose that has a similar OD to the bushing hole, and a similar ID to the size of the bolt. That will take up the slop, and also be nice and cushy and no metal on metal contact.

ANd to the one guy who didn't have this problem. That is exactly why I'm asking this question, because I'm wondering if somehow the wrong bushing got into this kit. So before I drill anything out, I'm simply making sure I didn't receive the wrong thing.

I have yet to see the solid front mounts, all the ones we have here are the two piece one. I also contacted prothane to find out for sure. I apoligize if i am wrong and they did change them. I will update when i find out for sure.

Ok its confirmed, I just got off the phone with Neal from Prothane, the new mounts are in fact a 1 piece design....no more 2 piece inserts.

As for the problem, you can either use a bigger bolt and open up the holes on the bracket, or just tighten the heck out of the stock bolt. I would feel more comfortable with the bigger bolt though. LOL.

Who are you confirming that to, you're the only one questioning it? I'm glad we could inform the performance experts at Slowboy about what a 1G prothane insert looks like.

I also received a call from Prothane today. They told me that it was designed like that. The reason is for allignment of everything else with their mounts. It allows some play so you can get all the other mounts alligned.

IMO, they designed way too much play. On my car, everything else lines up just fine, so I don't think I need all that play. I will be doing the "hose" method, that way I'll get rid of the play, and at the same time not have to enlarge any holes out.

Thanks for everyones help and input!

You can order one from summit racing... You can buy them individually.

^^Thanks andy. The part number is also on the prothane website so you can be sure you get the rite one.

Thanks....i was telling that because EVERY set we have in stock has the two piece mounts, and every set i ever used were the two piece mounts. no need to try and toss in the tude factor. Thanks for the expertease though. :)

Well, I know what kit NOT to get. That is ridiculous amount of play. You should not have to modify the brackets on the forward subframe to make the kit work. And using the hose method, kinda defeats the purpose of the product. Everything is supposed to be tight and limit movement. The hose is going to allow slight flexibility. Some flexibility is alright, but it fill material should already give that movement.

Isnt it possible that the brass insert in the middle is just the wrong one? That is the first question that comes to my mind. And if thats the case cant you just find or have someone make the proper one?

Read the first post, that is exactly what I did ask. But all the info I got, it's the correct piece.

Anyhow, I used the hose method, and it is installed.
