I haven't updated this in a while, so I thought it was time I did. First up, I got the head off the 6-bolt and it looked pretty good, just a lot of carbon deposits. Here are some pics after my buddy and I got the pistons out:
When we turned it over and took the pistons out and found this:
The crank does not look too bad:
My buddy and I thought the rods looked bad at first, but a trip over to the machine shop changed that. The Machinist thought they looked fine and just need a nice polishing. I still need to bring them back and get them measured to make sure.
Since then I have been very busy, but I have picked up a few things for the Talon. First, I got 2G pistons for the 6-bolt for $40. Came with the rods as well, which I might be able to sell and get some of my money back. Next I got a 90 EPROM ECU for free from a buddy:
The caps leaked a little and will require some repair, but ECM Tuning can do that when I send it out to get socketed.
Now here is what you guys have been waiting for:
I picked up this genuine, rebuilt Holset HX-52 for $475 shipped. A little big for my goals at this point, but I want room to grow and drive-ability is not an issue since this is a track only build.
I also picked up a used ACT 2600 4-puck for $225:
Only had a few miles on it as you can see. I also have a Fidanza Flywheel on the way that I picked for $75 shipped with a new friction insert. The next big purchase will be a 23 spline transmission and t-case, which I should be buying from someone on here in a day or two. I also plan on dropping the head and block off at the machine shop soon. This brings the total spent on this project to $3219.00, which includes the cost of the shell.
